I understand you wish to copy some photos that are on your iPhone 6 to your MacBook Pro. If you are unable to use the iPhoto application at the moment, you can use Image Capture, which is in the Applications folder, to resolve your immediate need to get the images copied to the Pictures folder on your MacBook Pro.

At this point, if you have not already done so, I would recommend backing up your MacBook Pro with Time Machine.

vrclffrd48, what version of the operating system do you have on your MacBook Pro? The iPhoto application was replaced by the Photos application in 2014 with the introduction of OS X Yosemite version 10.10. It's possible that your iPhoto library may need to be updated if that is the case. Or, you may choose to update your MacBook Pro to the current operating system, which is El Capitan.
