Hi - please try: press and hold Down + Menu for 6 seconds. This will do a restart from the remote. I have no idea why it worked for me. I unplugged/replugged and also reset and restarted several times from the settings menu, and neither helped. But - when I did the restart from the remote with press and hold Down + Menu for 6 seconds, my Apple TV started behaving like the old days and the TV shows and movies start right up. After two months of frustration I tried it, and it has been working normally now for about two months with no issues. It is worth a shot.
This works for me. iTunes movie downloaded instantly on ATV3! Took over an hour before.

Jul 23, 2016 2:16 PM in response to Parpindogby Evalas,I'm a bit late to the party on this and the hard reboot worked for me. The problem today affected all movies purchased directly through Apple, but I've encountered it before. Generally, it would only affect certain older films while something like the latest Marvel or Disney movie would start up with no trouble at all. I always thought that was very strange.

Aug 21, 2016 3:09 PM in response to clfayeby surferdude85r,Had the same problem. Keep doing the reset from settings, but then it comes back after a few shows and I get the wheel of death. I keep forgetting that the menu/down reset is the HARD reset. Also Apple Care told me that the new Apple TV's are like our iPads and iPhones. The apps stay open until you actually "close" them by pressing menu twice and swiping them up. I had about 20 apps open and didn't know it. This stopped iTunes from even getting to my shows. Thanks Apple Care.
Thanks clfaye for the reminder about HARD resets.

Sep 16, 2016 7:49 PM in response to Parpindogby Tyr382,I'm same but I'm using Ethernet with a 100Mbs internet connection
All other devices on the network are fine. No problem with Netflix, Stan or even presto. But soon as I go to watch a movie on Apple TV, its slow as ****
Even the Netflix service on Apple TV is slower then the service on my Sony TV.
WHAT IS GOING ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sep 17, 2016 5:28 AM in response to Tyr382by Diana.McCall,Hi. Are you using ATV 3 or 4? Have you tried closing all apps (ATV 4 only), and the hard reboot? Have you tried putting ATV on WiFi?

Sep 25, 2016 9:02 PM in response to Diana.McCallby keizerjl,I am having the same problem on ATV 3. Netflix, Hulu, etc work great but my purchased movies won't play. I've tried everything from a hard reboot to a complete restore to factory settings.
