Q: gps not working properly after iOS 9.3 update

Hi all.

After updating to iOS 9.3 my GPS cannot find my exact location. It keeps telling me I am in a big area, (Triangulating) seems like it does not activate the GPS.

Sometimes very little it works and give me the correct position, but 97% of the time its not working. Anyone else with the same problem?

Besides that: A hot phone & bad WIFI

iPhone 6 running iOS 9.3

My symptoms are rather different. And they seem to occurr on both my iPad Air and my iPhone 6S+ (128 GB).  The problem in my case is an excessive number of trackpoints are being recorded. Best seen in this table:TrackpointsSummaryTable.jpg

Thats the route I took. I detailed my experience, but the Apple Gods deleted it. It worked out great though

As most of you are I'm very frustrated; I've never had issues with my Apple devices (iPhone 6 and iPad Air) before until the upgrade to 9.3.x after that my GPS does not work, my wifi is weak in my home or wherever I go and sometimes doesn't even pick up the wifi connection. I've hard reset, I've factory restored, I've done it all so I went to the Apple Store and their so called Genius people wow first time and the last; very useless if you ask me; they might con all the novice users but I work in IT and have had the latest gadgets all my life so good luck trying to tell me oh it's because your phone is slightly bent! My phone is perfectly straight never in my pocket and always on a desk or table. The nerve of them saying that pointing to my tempered glass screen protector and trying to say look the screen is sticking out lol I ripped the tempered glass protector right off and said you mean this thing? How's my phone now, screen isn't sticking out anymore is it? They then ran a diagnostics nothing wrong with the phone of course; I treat this baby like gold. This software update has ruined my experience with iOS and thankfully my wife didn't update because we can still use her GPS and wifi when we're on the road. Apple you really messed up and so many people have problems and it's clear by offering them a new phone replacement for $370+ that you're not addressing this software screw up. Keep it up and you're going to lose a lot of users. I'm not paying $1000 for something I can't even use properly thanks to you. Was going to buy iPhone 7 in a month but now no way. iOS 10 better fix this issue.

Many thanks hjonpark!  This trick worked perfectly for me. Both Waze and Google Maps work great again

    I have the same problems.

Brought the phone to the "genius bar".

They tested it and said nothing was wrong!

I then tried the hard reset...no help.

Next I tried the factory restore...another huge waste of time!

MY guess is Apple isn't doing anything so that we will buy a new phone!

    Very sad.

I actually have the exact same problem since Feb this year and have been on the blogs portals to check solution. (I am on EE and use iphone 6)

    Nothing worked.

Then I got curious...I manage to borrow sim only Galaxy S4.

Ran mobile hotspot on my iphone 6 and connected S4 to WIFI and ran Waze.

Guess what though? It worked completely fine. I was super glad to find solution to mobile navigation. It seems that Samsung made their phone better considering S4 was out light years ago...

This clearly proved it wasn't to do with network provider and software worked in S4, so it is getting obvious where the real blame is...

I by-passed the Apple IT to do my own way of making it work. Sure, as long as you get the job done, right? But million $ question is would I and should you pay the same to get Apple again? I think we know how to better spend our money this time and is to explore better phones whose basics works and manufacturer will take responsibility for fix and thrives for innovation and performance equally. It probably doesn't make much difference as there are yet millions of buyers in the world to buy new iPhone. Let them. I have no say to that. But just for those experienced the same, should you??

I have the same problem. And it's totally messing up my running. The GPS seems relatively accurate at first but slowly gets worse (less and less accurate). It's relatively accurate for the first 6-10 miles but gets crazy-inaccurate after that - off by as much as a half mile. I know it is the GPS because I'm getting the same inaccuracy whether using iSmoothRun, MapMyRun or other running apps. And I also know it is off because I run with others who aren't having this same problem. Started with iOS 9.3, still there with 9.3.5. Did the reset, factory reset and still no fix.

Hope this is addressed in iOS 10, otherwise I may just have to switch to Android. This inaccuracy is completely unacceptable.

Just to say IOS 10 beta program at first helped but in third party apps it has the same issue.

It seems to bounce you around an area about 400 - 800 yards out of where you actually are.

It is hard to reason that if this occurred after an iOS update as to why some people find replacing hardware a fix, if it was software related in the first place unless you drop or bump your phone a lot it should not effect the hardware with a software update.

Apple needs to get this sorted, Maps and google maps find are reasonably accurate some of the time but third party apps i could be anywhere and often see it jump places!, if playing Pokemon the little guy is running around like crazy when I'm sitting still.

Apple please fix the IOS or Honour hardware related issues a bit better.

I have the same problem in my 5S. When I still using iOS 8.4.1 the GPS still working properly even when I going somewhere, the GPS can locate me and follow me properly. And now, since I using iOS 9.3.4, my iPhone's just like don't have any GPS, it can't follow me or locate me properly and Its always in a big area ( more about 1 KM^2 ).

Same problem here and it keeps on with iOS 10! So no intention to resolve from Apple...

I mostly have the GPS problem, wifi and blutoo still work decently, but less good as before.

I have the same problem. Iphone 6.

After 9.3 Update, GPS not detected within maps or other third party apps.  WIFI signal is basically nonexistent outside a three foot radius of router.

9.3.1 update didnt help. 10 update did not help.

The 9.3  update is  definitely the root cause behind the gps and wifi function not working.  My other 6 (without the update) continues to work perfectly.

I've reset the phone, reset the network setting, completed multiple backups.  Nothing has helped.

Apple please please please provide resolution. GPS is one of the most important features for most.

I am having the same issue.  I am wondering if a certain generation of the hardware is incompatible with any iOS later than 9.1.   I've reset my phone to factory default twice, the latest with a full install of iOS 10.0.1.  Still no GPS, inconsistent bluetooth and Wifi that only works in a 15 ft radius with clear line of site to a Wireless access point.  I'm out of warranty on the phone and Asurian refuses to replace its since its not covered (by their own policy allegedly).  Last time I brought the issue to the Genius bar, they suggested a reset and if that didn't work, i was looking at a 299.00 price tag to replace the phone.  Not a particularly happy person right now.
