Q: iPad Pro 9.7 Random Restart

Normally wouldn't think much of this but, I have a 2 day old iPad Pro 9.7 128GB that has restart on me twice so far. In the middle of using it, it will cut to the Apple logo on the black background for a minute before returning to the passcode screen. Oddly enough, it will accept Touch ID in place of a passcode, something it doesn't usually do when it loses power. Any idea on the cause or how to figure it out? I chatted with the tech support but they only help they could provide was to do a restore. I just performed it, but my concern is that I installed an app or enabled something causing the iPad to crash and it'll simply continue to do that due to the bad app.

My battery is now 49% the usage is only 6 hr 31 mins do you think it is normal? Because before I bought my iPad Pro 9.7, I used iPad mini 2 and I feel that the battery last longer than this iPad Pro 9.7 and the brightness is only 50% after I finished typing this it goes down to 48% with the usage of 6 h 34 mins standby 24 hr 37 mins

I got a new iPad Pro 9.7 about a month ago and random restart on the first day. I blew it off at first, then it keep doing it. I googled it and found this article, so I chat online with tech support and they had me reset all settings. Next day it did it again so I made appointment at Apple store and they did a full fatory reset. Next day it did it again, so I called them and now they want me to connect to iTunes tonight and reset it again. I did it it on video and I offered it to tech support and they said no. I think I need a new iPad.

Replacing the iPad and reinstalling the software did not solve the problem for me. I would recommend you wait for the next version of iOS to be released which is expected to be in the next few weeks.

I Have the Same problem on brand new 128G wifi.

went and replace it, full restore...and sure enough it keeps, doing it.

it happens when I switch apps, close one using gesture.

its not a complete reboot, I see the apple logo and it's back pretty quick.

happens to me about once a day, just like the pervious  did.

had Air 2 before...don't remember it ever did thIs. And yeah I'm on 9.3.5.

THough it it did that on previous version as well.

I would wait for iOS 10 which should be out in a few days before rest or replacing the iPad.

some have posted that it's still not working with new iOS, but I've been running it for weeks, and it fixed mine. I've been complaining about the restarts since day one(check previous posts), when I bought my iPad (launch day). For me iOS 10 finally fixed it, still no excuse for having like this for 6 months. Hopefully its fixed for good, fingers crossed. I was almost scarred to jinx it and post that it's finally fixed, but it has been for a few weeks now.

I Have updated to IOS 10 and was checking things out. I was in an app and when I touched it I was sent back to the sign in page without seeing the page with the apple first.  I just hope it was the app due to the upgrade and not a sign of things to come.

Okay so, I've been checking this thread for quite a while - since I started getting these "Springboard" crashes when switching apps. Always seemed to be related to having Safari open. SO Safari with some tabs, then other random apps. At some point I was getting 2-3 springboard crashes per day. Very quick, just show the logo for a couple of seconds, then back to the pin pad. iOS 9.3.4 did not fix it, then I went to 9.3.5. I remember for sure that I have tried setting up Safari in different ways, and at some point I just disabled the Javascript engine (and I have continued using Chrome for stuff that required JavaScript)

So thing is, the crashes stopped. I hadn't have one for like weeks. Then I went back, and re-enabled Javascript in Safari. This was 2 weeks ago. No crashes whatsoever, ever since. The "bug298" that we all see in "diagnostic and usage", also called the "JetsamEvent", is common to ALL devices. Just went into an Apple store in Manchester and quickly checked almost all the devices: ALL had "bug_type":"298" events in the logs. I checked current iPhone models, the 12.9 inch iPad pro, the small iPad Pro, iPad minis. All had this in the logs, several times. I am still getting them daily, but hadn't had a crash ever since.

I am hoping it was, in fact, iOS 9.3.5 that fixed it. Dont' know. The crashes did not come back after I re-enabled JavaScript in Safari, so it was just a coincidence, it seems.

Now with all that being said.. I am waitign to see what iOS10 brings to my iPad Pro 9.7. - because if there are ANY reports of the springboard crash again, I am staying on 9.3.5. O.o

My device is a 128 gig iPad Pro 9.7in, WiFi only, model MLMW2B/A.

(edit: first I wrote "128 megabyte".... LOL .. you can tell I'm from the 80's )

Cheers and yeah.. first ever post in here

I have updated to IOS 10.  Still getting random restarts.  One happened a few minutes ago.  Instead of the page with the logo I now get a black page with a circle of white lines that keeps spinning until it goes to the sign in page.  Way to  go Apple!!! I guess Apple will never fix this or take responsibility.

IM having the same issue as before with 10.0.1, seems as though it's also got bugs. It won't connect to the iTunes Store for simple things like updates and then makes my unit crash.. How many more times will Apple let this issue go with the iPad Pro 9.7..

MY work unit which is the 12 hasn't had one single issue. Fix this issue apple.

Same Here. Still Problems with 10.0.1. I Sent it to apple. The send it back, they Could Not reproduce the problem. Now I think I will make a video (because it occurs very often in safari) and make a appointment with Genius Bar. do you think that's a hardware or software problem?

it's definitely software. it happens on way too many 9.7" ipad pros. it's some sort of hw incompatibity, but that does not mean hw. fault. Apple needs to sort out what is causing it. It is likely a driver level issue in ios. Because it happenss usually when.safari is used, it is likely comms related. Mine seems stable in 9.3.5. don't ask, doesn't make sense. I mean it's weird 9.3.5 fixed it for me, and others report the bug still in 10.0.1. - unless - iOS 10 does not inherit the 9.3.5 source code. (which actually is possible). But then again I think there are some people reporting the crashes on 9.3.5. Mine is stable, did not have a crash since i installed 9.3,5. As I said I had javascript disabled in safari for like 2!weeks, then i re-enabled javascript in safari and still no crashes.
