Q: iPad Pro 9.7 Random Restart

Normally wouldn't think much of this but, I have a 2 day old iPad Pro 9.7 128GB that has restart on me twice so far. In the middle of using it, it will cut to the Apple logo on the black background for a minute before returning to the passcode screen. Oddly enough, it will accept Touch ID in place of a passcode, something it doesn't usually do when it loses power. Any idea on the cause or how to figure it out? I chatted with the tech support but they only help they could provide was to do a restore. I just performed it, but my concern is that I installed an app or enabled something causing the iPad to crash and it'll simply continue to do that due to the bad app.

For testing I will deactivate javascript and use Firefox instead of safari as often as possible. I also had problems in 9.3.5

So, i propose the following...those of us who say have this sorted, let's post here as soon as we have a crash. I am on 9.3.5, no crashes since i have installed it - and I do use safari all the time. As soon as i get. a crash, i will report it here. i am playing the waiting game with ios 10

I have had so many different answers from tech support that it seems no one knows what story to use.  The latest was from the Genius Bar (I was there for my iphone 6plus.) I was told that it was my app that caused it.  I was playing Spider Solitaire and it happened when I touched a card.  When I went back to the App the had I was playing was gone.  It seems they are putting the blame on the consumer not Apple.  Looking online I found reports of random restarts going back to 2010.  I am sure I do not have the full list.  Seems like they do not know how to solve the problem or do not care. It seems strange that some IPad Pro 9.7  are  working and others not.  Why??

My crashes ended with iOS 10 also. Not one since Beta 4. I know how annoting it must be for others, but I'm wondering if its apps that haven't updated for iOS 10.

9.3.5 didn't fix mine, it wasn't until I switched to 10 that it got fixed.

Yes, that's the same here.   I've been crashing an average of two times a day since they first came out.  But, I haven't had a crash since installing iOS 10 on Wednesday morning.   However, if I look at the diagnostic area I still see crashes that have occurred but I guess its all handled in the background.

Sure hope it starts working for all.

Hmmmm, I think I had a crash.  It didn't show the Apple so it was a lot faster.    And it been around 5 days in ios10. So, it is a big improvement. It happened when I was in the Contact file and then went to the Map file and them tapped on the good old 'go back on the top left side' to go back to the Contact file.  Oh well, it wasn't to bad, eh?

Apps crash all the time. That's why App developers release updates so frequently. Or the other way around anyway, if you see stuff in Diagnostics and Usage in the Settings/Privacy, that's normal. Apps are allowed to crash. We're more concerned with iOS itself crashing. That's a NONO.

So I was to post here that since I updated to IOS 10 I have no more reboots, except one that happened few days ago. I was sure it was just one event...and sure enough it happened again today.

So yeah I get now one every few days instead of the daily one I got before.

HI locsei,   I agree completel.  The only trouble is that the, pretty new, go back at the top left corner that I tapped to 'go back' is part of the iOS system. Like you say, most crashes are behind the scene.   But, ipad Pro 9.7 crashes Occasionally while my wife's iPad Air has never crashed on the same iOS system. At least I've only had 1 crash, that didn't have the Apple show up, just had to tap the home tab to get back on.   So that 'NoNo' is still there but nothing like it was(only 1 time so far in a week).  So I'd call a 'soso' for now!

this is getting weirder and weirder....

can you remember if Safari was in the background when the crash happened?

ALso, after the restart, were your apps still showing in the background?

I am on 9.3.5 and no crash since

BEfore on 9.3.4 i had crashes almost every day, but only with safari enabled.

can you disable safari - use chrome instead for a while and see what happens?

well that go back link is actually doing a task switch... and that's when it happens.. when you switch back and forth between tasks, while one of the tasks is Safari

well this is unrelated (or maybe it does who knows). My Apple Watch did the same thing on OS3.

I was switching between watch faces, and bang i see the Apple logo...reboot.

Now i just need the iPhone to do that as well
