Q: After briefly losing service, iPhone will fail to reconnect to cellular network until restarted

When my iPhone loses service for any amount of time, like when driving through an area that isn't covered or going inside of a building, the device will not reconnect to the cellular network once it is back in range. I have tried toggling airplane made to make it search again; this does not work. I have tried resetting network settings; this also did not work and now I have to re-enter the password for every wifi network (bummer).

The issues DOES resolve, however, if I completely power off the device and power it back on. Only to again reappear the next time I lose service.

What in the world is causing this and what can I do to fix it?

Things to note: MRI comes back fine. Issue JUST started this week. Device was restored about 3 weeks ago from backup because it is a replacement for one that I destroyed.

I also am running into this issue (iPhone 6, iOS 10.0.1, Tmobile 25.1), a reboot is the only thing that seems to fix it, until it loses signal again, then another reboot is required. No issues until the updated Tmobile carrier settings, hopefully this gets fixed soon...

T-Mobile has awknowledged the issue and says a fix is coming within 24-48 hours

    UPDATE:

    i have found that changing:

    Settings --> Carrier

    from "Automatic" to T-Mobile

appears to fix this problem, at least for me. I have had no problems regaining signal today after making this change, despite working in the same building with the same no-signal elevators.

I have not had to power-cycle my iPhone SE at all today.

give it a go and report back if it works for you!!!!

I plugged in my iPhone 6 to iTunes this evening and clicked check for update. I did get a new T Mobile carrier software 25.2. I wonder if this is a fix for our issues discussed here. Unfortunately I can't test it this evening as I can't find a spot where I would lose a T-Mobile connection. Anybody else has updates to 25.2?

Just saw carrier update 25.2. Quick test shows an improvement. I'll post tomorrow after more testing.

FYI, my phone (6 Plus) tested fine with carrier update 25.2. It's back to it's old self.

    Same here. Looks good now.

T Mobile has also confirmed this: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-32583

I lost connectivity after update with Verizon. I am not seeing any other users reporting this issue with Verizon network. Your response helped me to get a connection back. Settings>Cellular>Cellular Data Options> LTE Off. Back on Verizon and able to make a phone call. This level of bugginess after a 3 month beta is ridiculous. And I find it hard to figure out why no other reports from Verizon users are here. This is definitely a carrier settings issue.

I should add that this all transpired (loss of cell connectivity) after I updated to ios 10 last night.

    Kmj,

Try going to Settings>General>About and see if you get prompted for a carrier settings update. That's where us T-mobile users were provided our fix. I haven't heard these complaints from other Verizon users (correct me if I'm wrong) on the web, so it could be isolated to your phone. Another option would be to use the "reset network settings" option - that blows out all of your network settings including your wireless network passwords so just be aware of that. The phone reboots and the connection settings for Verizon will be restored automatically, however, I'm not guaranteeing it resolves it for you.

Thank you jjweid. Did not get a prompt for carrier settings. I did get one from iTunes when the ios 10 update was underway. And selected it. Perhaps  the installation was somehow compromised. You are correct, I haven't found anything from Verizon users about this particular issue. So far the fix I posted above has worked. Looking into your other suggestion for "reset network settings", but my brain freeze on network password has to be thawed. Thanks again for the suggestions.
