Q: iOS 10 OTA Bricked iPhone 6S Plus

Hi Apple Support,

I did the OTA update on my device on Tuesday evening and it has failed, I'm getting the iTunes prompt on the screen, I've tried restoring and updating but this isn't working.

I can't chat with support as I don't have the IMEI MEID of the phone.

Can you please help? I'm currently travelling away from home and need to get my phone back up and running

Thanks,

Mike

    Hi, mikemooney!

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! Based on the information you provided in your post, I understand that you tried updating your iPhone to iOS 10 using Wi-Fi, but received a Connect to iTunes screen after you did. I also see that you have tried connecting to iTunes and running both an update and a restore, but neither seem to be working. I rely on my iPhone for pretty much everything, so I know it's important to get yours working again, and get the update installed. I'd be happy to help!

First, unplug your iPhone from your computer. Then, make sure your iTunes version is up to date with version 12.5.1, which was released alongside iOS 10. You can get instructions on updating iTunes here: Get the latest version of iTunes

After iTunes is updated, quit the app, then reopen it and connect your iPhone. If your phone is able, you will want to first create a backup or make sure that you have a recent backup: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

If you are automatically prompted by iTunes, select the "Restore" option.

If you do not get an automatic prompt to restore your iPhone when connecting it to iTunes, follow the steps in the article below to put your iPhone in recovery mode.

If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

I recommend making sure you connect your iPhone directly to your computer (not through a USB hub), and to confirm you have a good internet connection. If possible, you may want to try a different network. Using ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if available may also help.

    Cheers!

You need the latest computer iTunes 12.5.1 to recover.

    Good day

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

I don't have much to offer, but what I do know is that your IMEI number will be on the back of your sim card tray.

hope this atleast helps you get help !

    cheers

    Hi

Can you get someone at home to find the number it will be on the box?

    Cheers
