Q: Mac OS X 10.10.2 WiFi Issues on a Macbook Pro Retina 13 (Mid 2014)

Since I bought this Macbook Pro 13 Mid 2014 has been a headache to surf the Internet

My brother has this device and in my house there is a "residential gateway netgear cg3000d-rg" 802.11n, this Macbook Pro was purchased in New York.

I am IT support with high knowledge in networks, but with all my knowledge have not been able to solve the problem that can not navigate to the Internet.

When he buy the Macbook Pro came with Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, then he upgraded to Mac OS X 10.10.1 and finally to Mac OS X 10.10.2, says the latest update solves problems Wifi connectivity to the internet.

What happens with this Macbook grabs the IP Address and connectivity to the Modem is not lost, so the Mac can see the Modem in the LAN but when going to the Internet it just can not navigate web pages it doesn't respond, high latencies, when I Ping to Google via the Terminal, says "destination on host unreachable ", he tells me that connects with other WiFi smoothly and can browse normally.

I even ping 127.0.0.1 loopback Adress to test if the Wireless Network Card Interface respond and it respond succefull

In the Modem I made all kinds of possible configurations, I even called my internet service provider without any solution.

Here is a Pictures of my Modem WiFi Configurations

As you can see In the modem in the configuration of WiFi has the following security option

"WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]"

My service provider changed it to "WPA2-PSK [AES]" saying that will fix compatibility with the Mac, but in the end still with the same issue.

In my house there are several Apple devices and other merchant: iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPads minis, Ultrabook Dell, Dell Studio 15 and an old 2006 Macbook with Mac OS X 10.6.

All these devices do not give me problems Internet they work fine.

I need your help, really appreciate it, sorry for my bad English, my native language is Spanish so i had to use Translators

    Greetings ra.shemer,

If you are having an issue with connecting to the Internet using your brother's MacBook Pro, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

Before beginning, be sure to have the wi-fi password of your primary network handy. You will need it to rejoin the network.

Go to your network settings, and delete all your services on the left side of the screen (i.e. Wi-fi, Ethernet, FireWire, Bluetooth PAN, etc.)

    • Pull down the Wi-Fi menu and turn Wi-FI OFF
      • From any Finder window, hit Command+Shift+G to bring up Go To Folder, and enter the following path:

    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/

Locate the following files, copy them to your desktop for a backup, then delete them from the /SystemConfiguration/ folder:

    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist

    com.apple.network.identification.plist

    NetworkInterfaces.plist

    • Empty the Trash and reboot the Mac
    • Turn Wi-Fi back ON from the Wi-Fi menu, join your preferred network as usual

This process forces OS X to create all new preference files for wireless networking, which can be an effective troubleshooting strategy if the wi-fi problems began after upgrading versions of Mac OS X and even installing incremental system updates.

The wi-fi connection should now work as expected unless there’s a deeper problem, but it sounds like you are able to connect your other devices.
