Q: Safari search returns top hits

When typing in the Safari URL address bar on my iMac, the first character keeps replaces with the next character and returns Top Hits.  For example, when I attempt to type 'safari' in the URL address bar, the 's' is replaced with 'a' and it returns Amazon.com.  This started happening within the last two weeks.  In Safari preferences, I've unchecked Preload Top Hit in the back and Include Safari suggestions and restarted Safari with no luck.  Any ideas or suggestions?  This is annoying when I want to search directly from Safari instead of opening up a search engine like google or bing.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

If you Choose Safari > Preferences, click Search, then deselect “Preload Top Hit in the background.” While you’re typing in the Smart Search field, Safari no longer starts to load a page it determines to be the top hit based on your bookmarks and browsing history.

So keep the settings as :

From the above screen shot, having Include Safari suggestions checked has caused this for some people. Try unchecking it and test.
