Q: Trash auto deletes everything without warning

Last week I purchased a Macbook Pro with OSX El Capitan Version 10.11.6. For the first time last night, I deleted some files, however, they went right to the trash and emptied. There was no "are you sure you want to delete?" warning and the bin is empty. None of the trash commands in Finder can be accessed. They're all grayed out.

OMG! I don't remember what the heck I did.  I THINK it's ok now, but honestly, I'm staying away from the beast until Wednesday when I go for a Mac intro class at the store. I thought I was doing really well, now, not so much.

    thanks everyone for your input!
