Q: The Sent folders in Mail are not syncing

I use my mail on an iPhone, an iPad, a laptop and a desktop.  I send and receive emails on all of these devices. Mail is being sent and received correctly on all devices using an IMAP server - so each is correctly configured. I use Mail on the laptop and desktop and the Mail app on the iOS devices

I need these to all show the same sent and received emails (otherwise what's the point?)

Currently all show the same incoming mail list (ie all the emails I have received)

However, none of them show the same Sent mails.

Each of them shows the sent mail from that device, but NOT the sent mail from all the devices.

Clearly there is some kind of configuration issue that should ensure that all the apps/programmes store their sent mails in the same folder and that each then reads that folder.

However, I cannot find the solution.

Any ideas?

Check your Outbox, if visible, and make sure there are no stuck messages.

Next, log into your account via webmail in your browser. Do you see all the sent messages? If no, then it appears that some messages were not actually sent. Who is your email provider?  Comcast, Earthlink, Cox, ATT, Yahoo, iCloud, Gmail, AOL, Hotmail (other)

If webmail shows all sent messages, then save the sent messages first using Mailbox > Export Mailbox...

    Rebuild the Sent folder

Select the Sent folder for the account that is not syncing.

Under Mailbox in the Menu bar, select the last option: Rebuild.

This will remove all local cached messages and download everything from the server again.

Note: how many messages are in your Sent folder? If thousands, you might want to archive all but the current year.
