Q: iTunes 12.5.1.21 cannot turn off shuffle

Since downloading the latest iTunes update for Windows I can't get shuffle to turn off anywhere. The shuffle in the top bar (where the songs show as they're playing) is turned off, but the Shuffle All that's next to every album and also on top of the artist page is turned on and I can't find a way to turn it off. I hate shuffle, and I never use it, and I never want to, and yet iTunes apparently wants me to. Any suggestions for what to do?

As far as I can tell, my solution should allow you to play an album straight through without any shuffling of songs.  The problem I've discovered is once you reach the end of the album it does not go to the next album by the same artist, it seems to randomly select another artist to start playing.  So, for the moment, if you want to play all music by one artist, you'll have to shuffle all of that artist's music with the setup I posted (Controls > Shuffle > ON > Songs, then "shuffle all" for that artist).

There may be an actual solution out there, but I haven't found it yet.

In addition to this problem, and the lack of any artist artwork, I also have the very strange bug where clicking the >> forward/next track button moves to the previous song in the series.

This is so unbelievably buggy. I'm afraid iTunes is going to delete all my music too.

One thing I've noticed; if you go to View>Sort Albums By>Year>Ascending the entire music library disappears. If you then click on "For You" and then back to "Library" the music is back and now the shuffling is off for me and the buttons work again as intended. If I use the View>Sort Albums By>Year>Descending, oddly the bug is back and the >> button makes the music go to the last song in the series and then works it's way up from the bottom.

It's amazing to me that an app can continue to get significantly worse with loss of functionality with each successive generation.

Thanks Lokii44 for an answer that helped me:

"Drove me nuts too, but finally found the solution. At the very top-center of iTunes is the box showing the current song playing. To the left of the song title is the shuffle icon and to the right is the repeat icon. (De)select the one you want."

Sadly that didn't fix it for me.

This is KILLING ME! I hope this gets fixed soon. I'm using a 2015 MBP, OS 10.11.6. The shuffle thing is horrible! I agree with several other posters, I never want to have my music randomly shuffle. I understand some people do, that's great.

There has to be a way to turn it off!

Try my solution near the bottom of the first page in this discussion.  So far it's working like a charm for me.

Apple screwed up iTunes good and proper, along with the pictures of the nice microphone in the Artist view now I cannot play a complete album without it shuffling to a random song..nice one, have you heard of UAT ? its User Acceptance Testing and any normal company carries this out prior to any major software changes...I cannot turn off the blue shuffle symbol at all.

Thanks, I was hopeful your solution would work, but it doesn't for me.

Yes! The blue shuffle is on all the time and can't be turned off. Even with the Shuffle menu item selected as OFF, the blue light is always on!

When I play an album, I want it to play in order. When I set up a Playlist, I put songs in the order I want. This is so simple, and it used to work!

    Must Be Fixed!

I NEVER ever want to shuffle. I can't seem to get rid of it and further, I cannot tell when the shuffle icon is on or off. I am so angry right now with this. iTunes just gets worse and worse with every "improvement."

Strange that a solution works for one person but not for another. And we have the same system I think

So, related question -- does anyone know HOW we get this complaint officially up to Apple so that they actually fix it? I have no idea how to do that...

I have submitted a bug report to Apple. Hopefully they can address it in an update soon.

    I HAVE AN ACTUAL SOLUTION!!!

I followed the instructions on rebuilding my iTunes library here: http://www.mcelhearn.com/how-to-rebuild-your-itunes-library/

It took about 30 minutes, and now, when I play the first track of an album, I can see the following tracks of the album in the "Up Next" menu.

The visual controls are still baffling - The "Shuffle" button under the album artwork and the "Shuffle All" button at the top of the track list are still blue, but the shuffle icon in the now-playing box is not highlighted (does not have a dark gray background).
