Q: Still no text flow?

There appears to be still no text flow in the Pages update? Is there another page layout program that will do this? What about - dare I mention it - Word?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

Text flow is a pretty vague wording. Do you mean linked Text boxes as were available in Pages '09?

You could go with Word, but LibreOffice Writer permits linked Frames with text that cascades from one to the next. Here is the linked Frame effect in Writer, used by Insert menu : Frame : Frame Interactively:

Yes, thanks, I do indeed mean linked text boxes. Why did Apple ever take that away from us? I thought it might be back in the updated version, but not so. I'm creating a 12-page booklet (A5) and the text used to flow neatly from page to page many moons ago. Not sure if the LibreOffice Writer as illustrated would do the trick. But thanks for helping.

Pages v5 was a complete redesign/rewrite of Pages '09 v4.3, and is not based on the same code pool. There are a few reasons why the linked text boxes are not in Pages v5.6.2, three years after it was originally released.

    1. Not part of the original design.
    2. Probably too expensive (in resources) to add back into now entirely different code base.
    3. Apple unmotivated to fix a free application with “old” code.
    4. _____ !

Oh dear - not much of a consolation but a helpful, technical explanation. At least I know now I can stop hoping it will happen.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I particularly like (4).

Sounds like you used Pages '09 and therefore should still have it on your Mac, so just continue using it.

There is no sensible reason to use a largely broken App other than as a self imposed techno fashionista's need to be seen to be doing what everyone else is seen to be doing, and judging by the App Store reviews, hating (one star).

Hmmm . . . Don't think I have '09 any more as I bought a new iMac last year. Recall trying to import it from a MacBook but without success. Can you still obtain 09 anywhere, I wonder?

    Thanks for your help.

If you had it reinstall or migrate it.

A quick search will show that it is available cheaply from Amazon.
