Q: Frequent beachballing, apps crashing, system crashing

Also, OS seems to "forget" which app should be used to open a MS Office document, using Preview or Text edit instead. Etre Check report:

You have both Avira and ClamXAV installed. I don't know of a need for either, but I certainly wouldn't have Avira installed on my Mac.

I can't tell if that is causing the issue, but that is all AV software ever does on a Mac.

Uninstall "Avira" according to its instructions. Use no other technique, procedure, or utility to uninstall it. Its uninstaller is included with its downloaded installation package, which will be found in your Mac's Utilities folder unless you moved or deleted it.

Like all ill-conceived "anti-virus" garbage its uninstaller is not completely effective. The following files and folders will remain and require manual removal:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Avira

    /Library/Application Support/Avira

    ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.avira.uninstall.savedState

    ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.avira.controlcenter.savedState

    /var/log/com.avira.helper.watchdox.log

Thanks for your reply. I don't have Avira installed anymore, nor was I able to find any of the files you mentioned. Etre check did find one file with the name "avira" in it, but I was not able to locate it myself, using every possible technique.

I don't have Avira installed. I did have a copy of ClamAV on my computer, even though I haven't run it for a long time. I did, however, uninstall ClamAV on your recommendation. Thank you.

Whatever you did to uninstall Avira, it still has a kernel extension in System/Library/Extensions. However, it is not loaded, so may not be causing the problems.

Have you tried booting into Recovery and running First Aid on the startup disk using Disk Utility?

Clearly it's in /System/Library/Extensions/ and you should be able to drag com.avira.kext.FileAccessControl to the Trash with your Admin password, since it should not be protected by SIP.

Sorry, but nothing jumps out at me as any issue that would cause those issues. Certainly it wasn't ClamXav as you were not using Sentry.

Two crashes isn't very many over seven days.

The first involves Java, which is unusual. Appears to be up-to-date. What apps do you have that use it?

The second seems to be an attempt to install something from "Trader Workstation" at the same time, so they are probably related. Perhaps the installer need legacy Java SE 6 from Apple?

Do you recognize all the Safari Extensions (I never heard of derpyme and it looks suspicious).

FlashPlayer is out-of-date and has been disabled by Apple XProtect.

Silverlight is out-of-date with a security update from Microsoft last week.

DirectorShockwave has long been a security risk. See Why You Should Ditch Adobe Shockwave

Those are the only Internet Plugins I checked, so you might take a look at the others when you have time.
