Q: AirPlay not list bluetooth headphone after connecting

Hi all,

I wanted to see if it is only me or other people see this. I am using iPhone 5 which I recently upgraded to iOS10. As part of my daily usage, I connect bluetooth headphones (4.0), MPOW Swift is the brand, to listen to music or watch YouTube. With iOS 9.x I never had a problem with the headphones recognized and used immediately by all apps through AirPlay. With iOS 10, that appears not true. They are connecting as I see the icon in the status bar of the phone and in Bluetooth section of settings says it is connected but when I go to Music app and click AirPlay they are not listed. I found to fix the issue, I have to Forget Device of the headphones then repair and immediately they are listed again in AirPlay and sound is coming from the app through the headphones. Here is the kicker though, if I turn headphones off (disconnecting them from device) then reconnect, I am back to the same problem where they are not listed in AirPlay and I have to pair again the devices.

Anyone else seeing this issue? Sadly I do not have another bluetooth headphone to test this.

Thanks!
Jeff

I'm having the identical issue. It is occurring with all my Bluetooth devices. The Bluetooth is connected, as shown with the icon in the status bar, and the device says connected. But music, iHeartRadio etc play via the phone speaker. Interestingly enough, the phone works via the Bluetooth and pressing the button activates Siri so it's not a Bluetooth issue.

i've researched and tried resetting my network settings as has been recommended to no avail. Now each time I turn in a Bluetooth device, i have to manually connect it if I want to use it for anything other than phone functions. Very annoying.

    Apple, any suggestions?

I'm having the same issues with my Mpow Swift headphones on my iPhone 6 since upgrading to ios10. I've tried resetting the phones network settings and repairing the headphones, but the issue persists.

Sometimes my my phone also says the headphones are out of range after it's connected.

While the Swifts don't connect, my £10 Bluetooth earpiece does.

I am in the same boat with my set of Mpow Swift headphones as well.  I keep re-installing them to change apps.  At one point, I could hear Siri through my headphones, but the Podcasts and Amazon music were all playing from the iPhone speakers.  I thought it was interesting that the "system" sounds were playing properly, but the apps were not.

I have the same issue - MPOW headphones seem to broken with iOS 10. The phone simply wont remember them and its annoying to pair each time.

    Does anyone have a solution?

    I've contacted Swift about this.
They suggested 'disconnecting' (I supposed they meant unpairing) the Swifts, restarting the iPhone, then re-pairing them.

I've tried that and it didn't help me.

If they have a solution, I will post it in this thread. However, as my Swifts work on other devices I think the issue is with iOS 10.

It's not an MPOW or Swift issue. I'm having the issue with an MPOW, Jabra and Masonic Bluetooth device.

The MPOW will sometimes seemingly reset and auto connect but it's hit and miss. I'm going to the Apple Store to talk to a genius, maybe get a case opened.

Glad (or maybe sad?) to see others have same issue. I did want to mention though, it does appear that when they are paired correctly, they appear to be much louder than when running iOS 9, anyone else experience this? Also they appear to last a little longer (I am using iOS 10 on iPhone 5)

I have this problem too with a SoundPeats QY8. I think this is an iOS 10 bug since it was ok in iOS 9.

In order to get the device name to show up for audio playback, one workaround is to click on the device name under Bluetooth settings after it's already connected, which is a needless hassle.

Apple should try to fix this in an update.

Well apple just sent out an update. The Bluetooth issue has now been resolved. But now when I disconne the Bluetooth device, my phone acts like the headphones are plugged in. I get no sounds via the speaker. Period. No phone calls or anything. I have to keep my Bluetooth in at all times to be able to use my phone For anything. I tried plugging and unplugging headphones etc. nothing seems to work.

AT this point my phone is useless

    DOnt download 10.0.2.

I applied the 10.0.2 update and it hasn't fixed the issue with my Mpoe Swifts.

My headphone issue is now fixed.  I don't think it was the update that caused the issue.

I'm certain my Bluetooth issue is an iOS 10 issue, and might be specific to the iOS Music app.

My Mpow Swift headphones connect automatically to my iPads, both of which are still running iOS 9, and this issue only appeared after I updated to iOS 10.

Also, it's audio from the Phone app is channelled through the headphones, while audio from the Music app isn't.

The issue is not specific to the Music app because my Youtube app also doesn't play music through the headphone when the headphone is turned on. 10.0.2 did not fix this issue for me. Only the phone app so far recognizes the headphone by default.
