Q: Dictation accessibility sub-panel in Mavericks

I turned on enhanced dictation in Mavericks (10.9.5). All went well: the enhanced dictation was downloaded and it works. However, when I go to Accessibility in System Preferences, in order to work with dictation commands, there is no subpanel on the left for Dictation. Should that have appeared automatically, or do I need to download that sub-panel separately?

Do you get anything if you depress the FN key twice?

Thanks for responding. When I said that dictation works, I meant that pressing the FN key twice opens the little dictation indicator, and I can dictate. As I understand it, there are many commands I can use with Dictation, that are available under the Accessibility panel of System Preferences. When I go to that panel, there is a list on the left side with sub-panels for various Accessibility options. On that list, I find NO option for Dictation, and thus can not access the Dictation commands. Apple Help indicates that there should be a sub-panel for Dictation. I want to know how I can get access to that sub-panel.

    Thanks again.

In Mavericks there is no pane for Dictation under Accessibilty: only the Dicatation & Speech Prefs pane which contains a few settings for Dictation.

What there is under Accessibility, which may be confusing you, is Speakable Items. This is independent of Dictation (and has been around a lot longer - many years); when turned this on allows you to speak commands which will cause your Mac to perform specified functions, such as opening a program.

Thanks — it wasn't clear to me from Apple's help files that this was not available in Mavericks.
