Q: No access to user Library in Time Machine
I'm an IT guy at a Middle School and have noticed this year an increase in staff laptops with adware/malware/spyware. On staff MacBook Air (running 10.9.5) had over 10 different "bad" files or applications (e.g., MacKeeper, Genieo, etc.). I did a backup, stripped the MBA, installed a new OS, installed applications from a Master, then was going to bring back files individually to avoid bringing back the bad stuff. However, I could not access the user's Library folder on the backup. Yes I know it is hidden and used Terminal to show all files, and the user's Library folder did appear. Unfortunately, it was greyed out and there was no way to access any of the folders (e.g., application support, preferences, etc.).
I need suggestions on how to access this user's library folder. I just think there were too many adware/malware/spyware/ files that has destroyed any opportunity to access this folder.
At least I'm informing the staff member to change all account names and passwords used with this laptop.
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), Also MacBooks and MacBook Airs
