Q: I have phantom emails

AS you can see from the pictures below, I have phantom emails in just one of my email accounts that started when I updated to 9.3.5. I would go to the email and it showed 1 email unread, but there was no email. Now it's showing 3 emails unread and there are no emails. I have tried everything to get rid of this but it's not working. Can anyone give some insight to what is going on? I signed into my account where my email is and there is no email there. I deleted the junk and trash and cleared everything uo but it doesn't do a thing within the Mail app on my iPad. Any help would greatly be appreciated. It is showing 3 unread but as you can see, there's nothing there.

You might try deleting and re-adding the email account. Force quitting the Mail app might also help.

Thank you for your help. Yes I thought of that, and while that is a workaround, I was hoping Apple might be aware of the issue and will be coming out with a fix? I will delete my email and see if that helps. I hope this isn't a new issue that users will have to fix on their own this way. Not cool that I have to delete my email account and add it again.

It's the standard first trouble shooting step with email. It should take you less than three minutes (probably a lot less).

I was having this issue as well and it was driving me CRAZY.  Tried everything (avoiding having to delete account and re-add).  Nothing else worked.  Eventually I gave in and deleted the account and re-added it and long behold it was the only thing that worked!  Luckily it wasn't a tedious as I expected.

I no longer have the phantom emails issue. What worked for me? Updating to iOS 10. The phantom emails disappeared after I updated. So, not user related.
