Q: 'Press to upgrade' iOS 10 broken

I recently restored my iPhone 5S with a backup on iOS 10. After it was finished, all it read was 'press home to upgrade' and my phone does not have a working home button. I already tried turning it off and on and when I connect to iTunes it says I need a passcode. What do I do?

Take your iPhone to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Center and have that home button assessed.  They will advise you how to proceed.

    I had the same problem.

I found nothing to fix this problem so I decided to downgrade my iPhone.

    Now it's working again.

Yeah, Apple Support told me that I need to fork some money over to fix it. I asked what if I was unable to use the home button due to a disability and depended on Assistive Touch. I was told that Assistive Touch was not meant to replace the home button and then when I refused to pay (The 250 CAD), I was completely ignored. That's not happening. Needless to say this has damaged Apple's image.

    You do not do this.

It is the wrong approach to problem solving, and generally not possible.

If your iPhone has no passcode then you can downgraded it via iTunes. if it does, then you have a bricked device. your only option is to get it repaired. Apple should have at least told users not to upgrade if they depended on Assistive Touch or had a non functioning home button before upgrading.

I am having the same problem. It is just not fair, apple should have told us before updating. I am almost sure it is made on prupose so we have to pay the reparation.

Your post makes absolutely no sense.  Are you saying Apple should have told you that you need a working home button in order to upgrade?  Don't you think it is a reasonable assumption that your iPhone is working hardware-wise before you upgrade it?  Should Apple also tell you that you should not drop your iPhone into the toilet as the upgrade proceeds?

If your home button is not working, you should have it repaired.
