Q: Night mode in maps. Sensor not always active

hello. on several iPhones and iPads the following bug exists since quite some time. i haven't fond an answer yet, nor got a replay from apple.

on all my devices, the automatic switching between day and night mode only works between 8pm and 6 am. Before and after there is only day mode regardless of the ambient light. ( you can test that by setting the time of your device manually.)

in winter time it gets dark a lot earlier than 8pm so it is annoying having to navigate with the bright screen.

( I tried a lot of things in the settings with no success)

does anyone hase a clou?

thanks a lot

    Hey Crakob,

I see that you might be having some issues with Night Shift on your iPhone. Great job with going over the settings as well. This link can give some great tips on how to utilize and setup Night Shift as well as True Tone. You can check that your Night Shift is set for Sunset to Sunrise instead of a custom schedule so that it changes with the sunset and isn't staying bright well past sunset.  Adjust the display settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

You can also try a simple restart on your iPhone. Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities to post your question. This should have Night Shift working as expected on your device.

    Have a great day!

Hmmmm...  this is an automatic answer. I hope.

there is a big diff between night shift. And night mode !!! ( I'm talking about nightmode while routing with maps)

the point is, that even in daytime, there are occasions were the screen should go into NightMode. In my opinion there's no reason why the sensor for ambient light could not work 24 hrs. ( tunnel for example)
