Q: iPad and iPhone 6 Disconnecting from Wifi After IOS 10 Upgrade

I've noticed on both my iPhone 6 and my iPad a problem with maintaining connectivity to my home wifi network.  I will get an alert on the iPad (which is Wifi only, not LTE) that it cannot detect the Internet. It sees my router but says "No Internet connection".  Same is happening with the iPhone 6, which results in it going to LTE and eating in my data plan.  In both cases I have to re-boot the devices and connect to my wifi network again.  I am having no issues with non-IOS devices (Samsung Nook, one Roku player, and one Smart TV) with my home wifi network--only the two Apple devices I own running IOS 10.  Is there an issue with maintaining wifi connections?

iPad, iOS 7.0.3

    Hello rm2static,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding your iPad and iPhone 6 have been disconnecting from your home network after updating to iOS 10. I can surely see how this would be concerning, especially since other devices are connecting fine. I am happy to help get this resolved with you.

First, I recommend resetting the network settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will take all network settings back to default, including Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, VPN, and APN settings.

If the issue persists, test with a different Wi-Fi network. Also, make sure your Wi-Fi router has been updated with the latest firmware.

    Cheers!

Yep I actually found similar instructions from another website. The iPad seems to working now--but not the iPhone 6.  The 6 did connect for a bit--but then the same alert about "No Internet connection" appears.  I have to stress: no other devices in the home using Wifi are having an issue--and that includes one device running Android.  So I have a bit of a hard time believing this is associated with the router and its firmware.  Another friend is having the same issue and she did the same steps you described with the same results I'm experiencing. She said she has switched her 6s to Airplane mode and after several attempts that resolves the issue. (We've both on FIOS in different cities.  I don't know if she has the same router model or not.)

Thank you for following up. The additional information is very helpful. Were you able to test the issue on another network? If so, what were the results? These details can help us isolate the issue further. Also please review the link below to review the recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers.

Someone on Facebook gave me what he called the "nuclear option" and it worked.  Essentially I put the phone in Airplane mode and shut it off completely.  Then the router was power cycled.  After the router came back up then the phone was turned on, taken out of Airplane mode.  It found the router and this time connected to the Internet.   Worked fine.

Thanks for the quick responses back to me, appreciate the help!

I upgraded my iPhone 6 to iOS 10 and it has consistently been dropping the connection to my home wifi as well. Never had a single issue previously. I'd be interested to know if the issue returns after your "nuclear" option. Thx.

The "nuclear" option worked fine. No issues at all over the last few days on either device.  Pretty disruptive since you have to take down your home network for a few minutes. But it worked.
