Q: AirPort Express is no show in AP Utility

Airport Express 1264 doesn't appear in in AirPort Utility graphic.

I've had my Airport Time Capsule (3rd Gen.) up and running for years.

Purchase a Model 1264 1st Gen Airport Express to extend system.

Used CAT6 to connect Express to Time Capsule but Express is a no show in AirPort Utility

Connected Express directly to Mac-Mini still express is a no show.

2 days I played and tried numerous internet setup scenarios.

Can you help or would it be best to toss the 1264 and purchase another Express?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

The AirPort Utility relies on both the mDNS (aka, Bonjour) & the IPv6 IP protocols to find an AirPort base station.

I suggest that you verify that your Mac mini is configured for, at least, IPv6 link-local only mode. To do so:

    • Run System Preferences > Network > select Ethernet or Wi-Fi depending on how you connect your mini to the network
    • Select Advanced
    • Configure IPv6: Link-local only
    • Click on OK.
    • Click on Apply.

Tesserax Thanks but that didn't result in any change.  I also un-checked "Block incoming IPv6 connections" in Network Options.

    Maybe  the question should be:

How to setup a Roaming Network (Ethernet-connected WiFi base station) with OS X El Capitan?

All our computers connect to the internet via Time Capsule - ATT Router.

The WiFi doesn't reach the garage therefor I want to extend the network.

Purchased a used AirPort Express 1264.

Pulled 100' of CAT6 to the backroom and connected one end to Time Capsule, other end to Express,

Plugged Express in, Green light on momentarily then turned steady Amber.

Brought up AirPort Utility on Mac-Mini but the Express is a No Show.

Ck'ed the Express, Amber goes off and the the Green comes on then goes steady Amber. Does this time and time again.

For two days I've tried and got'n no where.

Apparently I can't do a thing until I can access the Express thru AirPort Utility.

Unfortunately, a steady amber LED status light would indicate a potential power failure of the base station ... and, most likely, the reason you are having issues with it.

Yep as I suspected, a defective Express.

Tired of trying... Went to Apple Store, $107 later I up and running.

    Thanks you all.
