Q: Urgent: help needed on problems on iPhone 6s after iOS 10 update

Hey there! This is my third post regarding the problems Ive been facing on my devices after the iOS 10 update. Initially, after I updated, the music app wasn't running on my phone- all I could see was a blank screen and the app crashed and I was redirected to home screen in a matter of seconds. Tired restarting phone, removing and then adding the app back, nothing worked. At all. So I tried to restore my phone, back up all content via icloud. Followed all the steps and after restoring the device some other problems resurfaced BUT the music app still doesnt run.

Now not only does the app not run, I can no longer sync my iPhone with iTunes. Every time I try, I get the following errors:

1) itunes cannot sync as the connection with iPhone was reset

2) iTunes sync session failed to start.

PLEASE NOTE, BEFOR RESTORING IPHONE I COULD STILL SYNC WITH ITUNES EVEN AFTER IOS 10 UPDATE AND TRANSFER MUSIC ETC BUT JUST COULDNT OPEN MUSIC APP IN PHONE- NOW I CANT DO EITHER !

I have tried pretty much everything, restarting both phone & iTunes, resetting network settings on my iphone, resetting itunes sync history, deleting lockdown folder, running iTunes as administrator on my PC, changing my USB cord, updating iTunes, reinstalling iTunes on PC- nothing seems to work AT ALL. And it is extremely frustrating. I can sync music/documents on my iPad after device update and then restoring it (iPad also has major issues) and then subsequently play music on it but my phone just no longer can be synced. It's a major function and if I can't sync it my device is a sitting duck.

The new iOS update has also given my phone massive lag. Screen freezes, apps take time, HDR photos take longer to be snapped. It's all just too much to bear.

Ccan anyone PLEASE help me with my iTunes sync+music app issues.. I genuinely regret updating to the new iOS. Please help me out.

Thanks.

P.S apologies for such a long post, I had to write out everything I've tried.

If you are on Windows, uninstall iTunes, uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support. After both are uninstalled, reinstall itunes, see if it will sync with itunes then.

Thank you for the reply Milestone777 , I did what you suggested but that hasnt worked either. iTunes still not syncing- funny though I can see in the storage app at bottom of iTunes that states Audio storage has 3 GB/313 songs yet I can't see any songs in my music settings download tab In my iphone.

So neither the sync nor the music app on phone working. Any other suggestions?

If you have restored (i.e. erased and iOS reinstalled) and then loaded your backup, then your backup may be corrupted.  You may have to restore again but not load a backup, which means setting up everything from scratch.  Not fun, but it sounds like that's what it will take to correct the syncing issue, given all that you've tried.

okay my iPhone still shows this in icloud back up: IMG_0152.PNG

but ive been using androids so I don't quite know how that works without copying any back up and starting from scratch :/ ive already transferred all photos- my only concern is loosing contacts so yeah :s previously I transferred me via Android to IOS app but I've update plenty of contacts, setting up as new iPhone will be a pain in the ***. That's literally the last resort and I hope I don't brick the **** device in the process !

I Know this sounds like a lame question but when erasing content one needs to sign out from iCloud or delete the account- are you supposed to sign out from every single device in order for the erase data to take place? Or does the device you need to restore only suffice??

i restored my iPad without signing out from iCloud on iPhone and it syncs fine with iTunes. However I didn't do the opposite when I restored my iphone. Could that be an issue?

    This is so confusing !!

    Check your iPhone 's

Settings > iCloud > Contacts: ON?

If it's on, use your computer browser with the link below:

    https://www.icloud.com/#contact

If your contacts are there, it will be fine to restore as new since contacts is not part of the backup.

Photos is also not part of the backup, did you save the photos onto your computer?

You should treat the photos like any other digital camera photos, save them on computer !

    If the above are set.

    Use iPhone's

Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings

This will wipe the iPhone and later the setup will ask whether you want to restore from backup, answer no.

You will be asked to answer Apple ID for the iCloud, do so and the contacts will be available on your iPhone automatically.

    Good luck.

Oh no I always transfer photos directly right after I take them. Can you please read my previous comment about signing out from iCloud on all devices vs just the one needing restoration ? And let me know how to proceed that'd be great. Thanks!

    ...

You sign out on the device you are restoring. Do not delete the iCloud account !

Signing out on every device is when you change/use another Apple ID.

It finally worked, thank you so much for helping out. I'm facing two issues on my iPad Air 2 after the iOS 10 update & you seem very knowledgeable so I hope you can help me sort these too,

    1) my iPad no longer supports Touch ID. even after restoring the device there was a failure to set up Touch ID error. And every time I power the tablet on I get a notification that says unable to activate Touch ID on this iPad- when I go into settings to set a new fingerprint I simply get a failure notificatio regardless of switching Touch ID access on off like some support discussions suggest.

    2) there is a general lag in the device, the sleep/wake button doesn't respond as it used to and most importantly when I power the iPad on it takes 2min30secs to get switched on- I actually timed it ! Prior to the update it merely took 20 second.

How to resolve these issues please help !

Would you mind posting in the iPad forum instead. It will help other users looking for iPad solutions.

This thread will help others with iPhone question. I will look in the iPad forum for it. Cheers.

Don't forget to quote the error message.
