Q: I've installed windows 8.1 using bootcamp, but it isn't appearing as a boot option

I've installed  windows 8.1 using bootcamp but it isn't  showing up anywhere. when i go back to bootcamp to try in stalling again, it asks me to remove existing installation! i downloaded the required software from apple and then the install was from a USB installation of windows 8.1,64.

MacBook, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), 2015, 12" macbook, 516gb

I Should add that it isn't the normal window screen that appears, just a very small screen asking for langaug details etc.

On EFI boot, the screen uses the highest resolution supported by the display. You should still be able to see the cursor.

hi again, I have now successfully installed windows on my MACBOOK.  How do I get the windows partition to recognise the installed wireless adapter so I can connect to the internet? Are there other drivers that have to be installed?

    thanks

Can you go to Device Manager and check if you have any devices under Network Adapter? If you see entries, do they have a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark?

You can download BC drivers to a USB Flash drive from the OS X side using

and switch to Windows and run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder.

yes, thanks, I realised thinking about it, an option to run bootcamp did appear after installation and I dismissed it, thinking that was done already! Anyway it is running now so hopefully that will fix all the drivers! . thank you so much for all your input, it has been a tremendous help!

Please remember to back up OS X, Windows and create a Windows System Restore point.
