Q: ios 10 Iphone won't connect to DHCP wifi

Upgraded IPhone 6 to IOS 10 and now the phone will not connect to my BT Home Hub 5.  All other devices will, even another phone which has IOS 10.

The Phone recognises the router password, puts a blue tick against the connection but no wifi signal appears and it stays on 3G/4G.

If I look at the DHCP information on the phone it is all blank which is wrong.

I've checked on the router and the phone is not showing as connected.

I've reset router etc.

I've reset the network connections on the phone, plus hard reboots etc.

I'm at a loss, please help!

Can you connect to other Wi-Fi networks outside your home?

If not, and to rule out a software issue, set it back to factory settings, without using the latest backup. Set up the personal details manually, then test the Wi-Fi connectivity.

    Hi,

    Thanks for replying.

I can connect to other Wi-Fi networks outside my home.  It is only the home one since the update onto IOS 10.

If the phone can connect to other Wi-Fi networks outside, you should check the router settings and also compare the settings of the other phone to the iPhone 6.

I've seen a similar issue. My GF's Iphone 6 (still on iOS 9.3) won't for the love of good recognize her WIFI. Not even manually entering the SSID helps. My own Iphone 6 plus has no such issues and connects just fine.

Her phone works fine on my WIFI.

Her router is an older Netgear.

    Hi,

DId all of that and settings on the router haven't changed. The phone is the same as the other devices which connect just fine. This all happened straight after the IOS 10 update. I'm clueless about how to solve it.

Did you try the factory reset without the backup?

I haven't done this, no.  I'm a little reluctant to go to this level but I'm not really going to have much choice.

Interestingly it connect twice last night for approx. 30 mins each time and once again this morning.  No reason, just noticed it was showing a wifi connection.  It has since lost the connection though.

I'm afraid that this would be the only way, to make sure, your firmware or other settings are not involved in this issue.

    Hi,

Did you manage to resolve this issue? I have exactly the same, which randomly started yesterday 2 days after I upgraded to IOS 10! Tried resetting hub, restoring network preferences on my phone, etc - nothing, still won't connect to my BT homehub. Be great to know if you found a solution.

    Thanks, Rob

    Hi Rob,

Not managed to resolve it unfortunately.  My ipad is now doing the same thing.  Last night the phone connected whilst the ipad wouldn't.  I have reset the phone completely and its made no difference - still intermittent.

The only thing on the router which changes when one of the devices isn't connected is it says something along the lines that the router is not set up of IpV6 for that particular device (you can look at every device connected in the router admin)yet the ones which are connected say it is.

I doubt this has anything to do with IOS 10. I use IOS 10 on several devices and have no issues connecting to multiple WiFi access points.

I suspect a configuration problem in your router. Set your router back to factory presets (usually by holding the reset button for several seconds until the router restarts). You also need to remove all the network connections from your devices by going to the settings app on your device and resetting all network connections.

Found this on the BT Community hub might help until BT fix the DHCP issue:

for those on iOS10 having issues follow these steps.

    1. Goto wifi settings

    2. Tap the Icon next to your wifi name

    3. Click static

    4. enter these settings

IP address: 192.168.1.xxx check the hub to make sure its not going to conflict other devices you can use an address in DHCP range if you are careful

    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

    Router: 192.168.1.254

DNS: 8.8.4.4 (these are Googles DNS servers) or 192.168.1.254

    Search Domains: home

    5. Hit the back button at the top and this should save the details.

    Thanks Raymond.

I had already reset the router and followed the recommended settings for wifi routers by Apple.  This made no difference.

It is an IOS10 issue as everything was fine before.  Looking at ickle1999 reply it could be something on the router caused by IOS10.

ickle1999 I did actually make the Ipad/router static last night to reconnect it and then switched back to DHCP as I didn't really understand what the consequences of leaving it on static were.  Changing to static and then switching back to DHCP worked for the ipad.

I noticed it says check the hub to make sure it doesn't conflict with devices in the DHCP range - err what?  If I choose a number instead of xxx which isn't one currently in use, will that be ok?

Still a little unsure as to why I would have to change the router for these devices from DHCP to static and the potential consequences - any techy person help/advise?
