Q: AirPort Extreme as wireless bridge?

I Just picked up an AirPort Extreme 4th generation under the knowledge that i can use it as a wireless bridge, my PS4 is in the attic and my non apple broadband router is downstairs, I would like to plug my AirPort Extreme into my room in the attic and establish a wired connection through that. However I don't have "manual setup" in my version of AirPort utility (I have OSX El Capitan) so I cant set it up in bridge mode. The older version 5.6.1 installed using a launcher will not detect it and neither will AirPort utility on my iPhone, only my MacBook detects it but I can't set it up as a wireless bridge. is this even possible or did I just misunderstand what I read? Any help is appreciated.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Sorry, but that is not correct. The AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule, unlike the AirPort Express, cannot be used as a wireless Ethernet bridge.

Will the Extreme be connected back to the non-Apple router by Ethernet or by wireless?
