Q: Why can't notifications go my Apple watch AND my iPhone?

One of the main reasons I bought the watch was to avoid missed messages... especially when I'm at home.

What happens if I leave my unlocked phone on the table and walk into another room?  The iPhone dings merrily to itself while my watch stays silent.  It defeats the whole purpose of having the thing if I still need to reconcile my messages every time I pick up the phone.

It's probably my only significant pet peeve about IOS... Apple creates something clever (great) then demands that you use it (why?).  I just want a simple setting where I can tell my watch when to ding.. that's all.   Don't hide the feature because you think it might create too many notifications.  Let the user decide.

    Hi

How notifications behave depends on the status of your devices and your settings. With Wrist Detection enabled, in order to bring notifications to your attention as soon as possible:

    • If your iPhone is unlocked, you will receive notifications on your iPhone instead of on your watch.
    • If your iPhone is locked or asleep and your watch is unlocked (regardless of whether the watch screen is asleep or awake) and on your wrist, you will receive notifications on your watch.
    • If your watch is locked or has Do Not Disturb enabled, notifications will go to your iPhone.

If you turn off Wrist Detection (on your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection), all notification alerts will be delivered to both devices. However, you will not then be able to benefit from features including Wake Screen on Wrist Raise, Apple Pay and a single unlock after placing the watch on your wrist.

This is a user-based support community.

If you would like to suggest that Apple considers adding an option for notification alerts to be delivered to both devices irrespective of other settings, you can do so here:

Come on... You can't seriously regurgitate a reply that essentially removes significant features of these devices while crippling some of the core security.  (There's a reason why it removes Apple Pay)

What's worse, is that every thread with this response is littered with new users who tried this... before realizing that it was a terrible idea and marched along getting everything setup again.

The problems is...It's not an oversight from Apple.  This is what makes it overly frustrating and why Apple really isn't interested in our 'suggestions' around features like this.  (If they were, it would have been discussed for WatchOS3).

So, I stand by my rant on a user-based support community.
