Q: move a MBP 2012 hard drive into a mac mini 2009

Hi,

I have bought a ssd 500gb and I'm cloning my macbookpro HD 500gb on it at the moment.

I have planned to use my macbookpro HD to replace my 120gb mac mini's HD.

I am wondering if that would be possible to put the macbookpro HD in the mini without removing its contents, so that would enable me to save time installing OSX and transfering data from my macbookpro? Would that be a source of problems?

I upgraded the mac mini's RAM to 8gb.

The macbookpro is running El Capitan.

I just bought second hand the mac mini and is currently running Leopard, but would love to have El Capitan on it.

Thanks for your advice.
