Q: Airplay to speakers in iOS 10 is missing from Control Center!

In the past, when I wanted to hear an audiobook through my home speakers or through my car, all I had to do is go to Control Center > Airplay, and all my options would be displayed (Apple TV, Car, Home Speakers). Now, with iOS 10, if I want to listen to that same book, here's what I have to do: Open the book file > switch from Audible to iTunes > choose Songs > pick a song and hit play > tap the song to reveal the AirPlay option > select Speakers > pause the song > return to Audible > select the book > hit play. If I want to return the book to my phone, I have to do all of the above in reverse. Tell me, HOW IS THIS AN IMPROVEMENT?! The problem compounds every time I leave my car, particularly if I am listening to a book or, heaven forbid, on the phone. It takes 10 minutes just to switch the phone from the car speakers back to the iPhone. Can anyone explain if there's a way in iOS 10 to get AirPlay to display ALL of my airplay options, not just AppleTV (which I almost never use), but also my car, my speakers, my friend's speakers, etc.? Apple, if you're listening, please rescue your loyal customers from this nightmare and restore AirPlay to its previous wonderful flexibility. Believe it or not, not every customer uses Apple TV.

    Hi there, djmichaelson!

Thanks for reaching out via the Apple Support Communities! After reading your post, I am understanding that you are having trouble locating AirPlay devices from the Control Center. I know having quick access to the devices you use with AirPlay is convenient, and want to make sure everything is working as expected. I'm happy to help!

I recommend taking a look at the article below to get some help using AirPlay in iOS 10.

Get help with AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

There is a section titled "If you don't see the device you want to stream to" that I think will be helpful. It states:

If you don't see the device you want to stream to

Open Control Center on your iOS device and swipe horizontally to find the Now Playing screen. You should see a list of devices that you can AirPlay to.

Don't see the AirPlay device that you need? Here's what you should check:

    1. Make sure that you plug in and turn on the AirPlay device that you want to stream to.
    2. If you're streaming to an Apple TV, make sure that AirPlay is turned on in Settings > AirPlay.
    3. If your Apple TV uses Ethernet,* check that the cable is plugged into the router that you use for Wi-Fi.
    4. On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and check that you're on the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or other AirPlay device.
    5. Check the same thing on your Apple TV (or other AirPlay device):

      • For Apple TV (4th generation), go to Settings > Network. Check that you're on the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device.
      •
      • For Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation), go to Settings > General > Network. Check that you're on the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device.
    6. If you still need help, contact Apple Support.

    * If your Apple TV is in Sleep mode and uses Ethernet, you need to wake your Apple TV with a remote before you can AirPlay content.

    Have a great day!
