Sep 20, 2016 8:39 PM in response to mk70by Limnos,Keep the old name. It's no big thing compared to having to use two Apple IDs. We cannot force Apple to change its policies on this unless you are going to make it a national campaign. If you really want to complain to Apple here's the link:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
By the way, you won't lose the purchases, it will just be a lot more difficult to manage things in two IDs.

Sep 21, 2016 4:34 AM in response to TeenTitanby mk70,Yes, I had. Also spoke to Apple Support but they can't help.
I can change my surname but not my Apple ID (which is an email address).
For thousands of women that gets married or re-married this is the same problem!
I cannot even have an alias email when I have an @me.com or @icloud.com account.
Sooo annoyin!

Where did you get that idea? You can create up to three 'alias' addresses - anything@icloud.com as long as it isn't already in use by someone, of course. This isn't a new account, but an additional address which will deliver into the inbox alongside any messages to your existing address. You can set outgoing messages to use this as the 'From' address. Then you give people that instead of the present address. You will still have to use the old ID to sign in to the iTunes Store and iCloud but no-one else will see it.

Sep 21, 2016 1:12 PM in response to mk70by Roger Wilmut1,You can create an alias as described in the Help page I linked to; but it can only be an @icloud.com address - @me.com addresses can no longer be created. This won't affect in any way your logging in or your purchases in the Store. You will still log in exactly as before but you can give the alias @icloud.com address to your contacts.
