Q: Yesterday, I updated to El Capitan. Now, I regret it because I now have something called safe search that sends me to yahoo sites. How did this happen? I never backed anything up because this computer doesn't have an external drive.

I, through stupidity, installed El Capitan yesterday. I now have problems that seem to be related. There is something called Safe Search that shows up and has a yahoo search engine. I don't remember if I backed up anything or not. This is my first mac and probably my last do to such limited support. I am retired now, so don't have the support system I had when I was working. Combine that with how difficult it is to get someone to actually help you and it is frustrating. I just want to go back to the way it was. The best changes are those that do nothing except fix problems.

It's very simple to get support: http://getsupport.apple.com.
Where did you download El Capitan from? You may have downloaded it from a source other than Apple, which included adware in a download. Either that, or the problem was caused by something else unrelated to installing El Capitan. Regardless, having your search engine changed without intervention is a common symptom of adware. Do a scan with Malwarebytes to check: http://malwarebytes.org/antimalware/mac.
