Q: Possible to migrate caching files?

Hello,

I was wondering whether it is possible to migrate existing caching files (such as App Store software updates and cached iCloud data) from one Mac running the Server app to another, so as to have everything in one location. Specifically, I would like to migrate caching files from my old Mini (which cannot be upgraded beyond El Capitan and which has Server 5.1.7) to my present one (with Sierra and Server 5.2).

I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Mac mini, macOS Sierra (10.12)

Honestly I clear out cache files on a regular basis. Most of them are stale dated anyway. Plus their probable for an old version of the app.

What do you see as the benefit of keeping the old cache files? Are you trying to 'prep' the cache server in advance? Or do you have a extremely slow internet connection?

Okay, I had assumed the cached app data in particular would be automatically limited to the most recent version for any given app, i.e., older versions would be automatically purged. I understand you as saying that is not the case, so I'd concur that clearing out periodically would make sense.

Your assumption is correct. It is incorrect to say that the cache just keep dated versions. What actually happens is Server will check as soon as a request on the network is received whether itself, peers, higher level cache's, or Apple have a newer version. If the reply from all is negative, it will serve the version in the cache. If all in negative, but Apple's is positive, it will replace the cached version with the newer version. If one of the other is also positive, it will handoff to the updated cache and purge the older version.
