Sep 16, 2016 6:08 PM in response to antmeyerxby Tony smeT,I tested something: if I uncheck an album in iTunes and sync so it is removed from my iphone, and then I check it again without changing anything to the alac files the artwork appears again. But I have too many to uncheck/check, so I hope an update will fix this bug!

Sep 17, 2016 7:26 AM in response to antmeyerxby Jayseph,Hey All,
Every time I do a big upgrade on my iPad or iPhone, I always worry about this exact problem as it has happened many times. First thing that I did to prevent this problem is always always always update my devices through iTunes on my desktop and not over the air. I am meticulous about my music and not having cover art is not an option. :-)
Last time my cover art disappeared I found a way to fix the issue with very little work, but it takes a very long time. Here is how to do it:
1. Plug in your iPad/iPhone to iTunes on your desktop.
2. Click on Music on your iPad/iPhone so you see all of your music on your device.
3. Navigate to: File-Library-Export Playlist
4. Save the txt file where you can find it.
5. Click save.
6. In iTunes, navigate to File-Library-Import Playlist
7. Select your saved txt file.
8. It might take a few minutes for the import.
9. Go back to your music on your iPad/iPhone.
10. Select all of your music and then delete it all.
11. Navigate to your playlist you created in iTunes, select all and drag into your device.
The first ten steps take maybe 5 minutes. I have a huge library so the last step took the evening and over night, but I could just let it do its thing and not pain stakingly go through each song/album. When it finished all of the cover art was back. Hope this helps!

Sep 20, 2016 4:08 PM in response to antmeyerxby jjkraw,I have occasional problems (across many releases now) with songs not getting copied from my Mac to my phone (I use iTunes and sync with a lightning cable). I have over 10K songs and sometimes new stuff just doesn't get onto the phone, even though there is sufficient space on the flash. The only solution I've found is to sync, over and over again. On the third or fourth try, iTunes will sit in a big think on the "Preparing to copy items" phase of step 6 (of 6) of the sync. Then, I see a flurry of copy activity and once that is done, all is well. This can sometimes take a couple hours.
I'm now seeing the issue with album art as described above. I'm also missing a few songs from a playlist. I'm on my second consecutive sync and iTunes has now been in the "Preparing to copy items" state for about fifteen minutes. So I'm hoping that my usual routine of multiple syncs also fixes the art problem.
I'll report back on whether this works or not. As I said, it usually takes quite a while.

Sep 21, 2016 6:04 AM in response to jjkrawby jjkraw,Two things to report:
1) Multiple syncs did not result in all of my artwork appearing on the phone.
2) The music that I have bought from iTunes (.m4a files) has the artwork intact on the phone. Music that was purchased elsewhere or ripped from CD (.mp3 files) does not have the artwork.
Is anyone else seeing #2? I'm going to send feedback to Apple now noting this issue.

Sep 21, 2016 7:24 AM in response to jjkrawby Jayseph,I know that this might be annoying, but have you made sure that the cover art is attached to each and every song in the album in iTunes? I had the same issue when cover art was missing on a few songs in an album. Now, all of my cover art is showing. That part is a real pain.
go to an album in iTunes that has missing cover art on your device. Go through each song in 'get info' to make sure that the cover art is there. If not, attach the cover art and then transfer it to your device to see if that will solve it.
One piece of information: I always update my devices through iTunes now. I never do it OTA. I have seen a dramatic decrease in issues, especially cover art, which I am obsessive about.

Good idea. Yeah, I re-checked several albums, both things I've ripped and stuff bought through Amazon. In each case, every song has the artwork attached within iTunes but no artwork shows in the music app on the phone.
The only common thread is that it is all non-iTunes purchased content.

The artist artwork is a separate issue. With the latest iTunes and iOS, they separated the artist artwork from the album artwork (I used to see one of the albums for the artist artwork) and now there is a circular icon for the artist. It seems that Apple has filled in only some artists so far (seems I only see the most popular bands in my library).
