Q: Can't restore from iCloud backup iOS 10

Hi, I updated my iPhone 6S yesterday to iOS 10 by doing a fresh install (restore with IPSW using iTunes) so then I could restore from my last iCloud backup (I don't backup with iTunes).

After the update, while finishing the initial setup of the phone, I select "Restore from iCloud backup" then I select the backup I want to restore but when the backup finishes downloading I get a message "Cannot restore backup". I've tried several times and also with previous backups of the same phone as well with the same result.

Is this a bug with iCloud? Is there any other way I can restore my apps to my iPhone from that backup?

Also the funny thing is that a while ago I change my apple id email. So now when I restore from backup it asks for my apple id and pw and after i select the backup it asks again for my old email/apple id and pw to restore purchases. So how am I supposed to insert the password for an unexistent email/apple id?

The reason it is asking for your old Apple ID and password for some (or maybe all) of the purchases, is because you set up a brand new Apple ID. The purchases under the old Apple ID are tied to that ID forever. So, you either need to reset the password to that old ID so you can update or re-install the apps, or you need to delete the apps and re-purchase those apps (or re-download if they were free).

The problem is that most of us here don't have an ios 9.3.5 backup, we only have an ios 10.0.1 backup.

So if I downgrade to ios 9.3.5 I can't restore my ios 10.0.1 backup

So I managed to solve the issue by updating my iPhone to iOS 10.1 Beta 1, erasing everything from the settings menu and then restore from iCloud.

Whatever the issue was iOS 10.1 beta 1 solved it.
