Q: Messages on Mac without syncing anything else with Apple ID

Hey all,

I have been trying to search for an answer but I can't find it so hopefully someone of you can answer me.

So I am getting a work laptop. I don't wanna use my Apple ID on it as it would sync all of my personal information there as well. However, I would like to be able to use Messages on Mac. So my question would be do you guys know is there a way I can connect my Apple ID to the laptop but only for Messages. Other than that there would be no need for my personal Apple ID.

Thank you so much already!

    Hi,

In System Preferences > iCloud I use an @me.com ID

In Messages for the iMessages Account I use my Original Apple ID that is from a Dial-up email Account I had some years ago.  (the company has been bought by Tiscali and is now branded under the Talk Talk logo).  That is to say that it is a different Email ID.

In fact in System Preferences > iCloud there is no tick box for:-

    Messages.

    FaceTime.

    iTunes.

    App Store.

    iBooks.

    Game Center.

It is only the items in the https://www.icloud.com/ listings that can be turned On or Off in the iCloud pane of System Preferences.

The same is true of the Internet Account pane where you can manually add Apple IDs as AIM Screen Names

Therefore you can use different Apple IDs in different places.

    NOTES

It pays to link the IDs for iMessages and FaceTime as FaceTime can be invoked from Messages and it helps if the person gets called from the same ID.

Also the same applies to App Store and iTunes and the iBooks as they can then link to the same Payment card (or pot of iTunes card redeemed money).
