Q: Can Pages 5 read documents edited on Pages 6?

Not all users upgrade os every year.

Can Pages 5 read documents edited on Pages 6?

 

(BTW I cannot understand why this is Pages 6 not Pages 5.7)

In the very brief test I did, yes, Pages 6 can open a Pages 5.6.2 file. I created a new file in Pages 6 on one Mac & then opened it in Pages 5.6.2 on another Mac. It opened without any warnings & I was able to close the file without getting a new Save dialog. This indicates that Pages 6 uses the same file structure. I also did a test yesterday & was able to open a Pages 4.3 file in Pages 6.

 

Of course, there are many posts in this forum of users having problems with Pages 5 being unable to open Pages 5 files created in a different version. Sometimes it can't even open files from the same version! Personally, I stick with Pages 4.3.
