Q: Firmware update failed, TC is now unavailable and no led light

Found my TC this morning blinking yellow, found a FW update was available, clicked update, downloaded FW but then it failed to update and now TC is unavailable, tried power cycle, but still not TC, front LED is off even on/after power on.

How to processed?

    How to processed?

    Time Capsule 802.11n (4th Gen)

The symptoms are typical of a Gen 4 TC .. so thanks for putting that info in your profile.

The new firmware is not the problem.. it was, however, the straw that broke the camel's back. Your TC has suffered total failure due to bad soldering.. the attempt at the update was that slight element of stress that caused catastrophic failure.

If you are a DIYer there is a fix.. it is free.. and has so far fixed enough to say I am pretty confident with your symptoms it will fix it.

You just proved my point about the firmware update not being the problem. It was indeed the straw that broke that poor camel's back. I presume when it finally woke up you discovered it had the new firmware running??

It will happen again at some point when you stress it.. be assured I have seen them work for 6 months without a hitch and then die hard again.. this time never to arise.

Enjoy the reprieve.. be sure to backup any files you need from the TC to a USB drive somewhere.. or cloud so you can access it later.
