Q: Re-syncing a photo album resets the facial recognition in IOS 10

i have no photos in my camera roll, but I do have albums on my PC that I constantly add photos to that I sync to my iPhone. With iOS 10 I was really wanting to use the new Photos app and started going through hundreds of faces, merging and adding them to people etc. My issue is, after adding pictures to these albums on my PC and re-syncMing them, it resets every facial recognition and I have to start all over. does anyone else have this issue?

    Hi gldoorii,

I understand that the people you have identified in Photos on your iPhone get reset each time you attempt to sync photos from your Windows PC. I know that it's nice to quickly find pictures of friends or family with this feature, so I'm happy to help.

From what you've described, it sounds like you may benefit from using iCloud Photo Library instead of manually syncing your photos. This will keep your photos up to date on all of your devices and prevent you from having to manually sync your photos. You can read more about iCloud Photo Library here:

You can read about how to set it up on your Windows PC here:

I have the same issue. I have a folder of photos on my Mac that I have added to the Photos section of iTunes. When I sync my iPhone with iTunes it creates a new folder in my iOS Photos app alongside the Camera Roll.

Every time I sync my phone with iTunes it resets the facial recognition groups in the People folder of iOS Photos.

Thanks but I'd much rather continue with the "free" option I'm currently using.

To be honest the People folder is a nice touch but I'd be just as happy to disable it if it doesn't work properly.
