Q: watch frequently is disconnected

Since upgrading to iOS 10 (iPhone 6) and watchOS 3 (first generation watch) my watch is constantly becoming disconnected from the phone. It is a quick fix (I just turn off and back on the Bluetooth on the phone and it is fixed). But it is annoying. I go through this a dozen times a day. And this never happened for the whole year I have had the watch, until I upgraded. Fixes? Thoughts? Suggestions? I unpaired the watch and re-paired it but it is still frequently disconnectIng.

    Hi there, dturkelson!

Thanks for reaching out via the Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, I understand that since updating to iOS 10 on your iPhone 6 and watchOS 3 on your Apple Watch, you've had some trouble keeping them connected. I know how important it is for the two devices to work together, and want to help make sure they stay connected!

I see you've tried to unpair and repair the Apple Watch and iPhone, but the issue still persists. That was a great step to try! Since it hasn't helped, I've got a few other things I can suggest for you.

First, if you haven't already, restart the paired iPhone following the steps here: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

After the iPhone is restarted, test out how well your Apple Watch stays connected.

If you're still having trouble with the connectivity, unpair your Apple Watch from your iPhone again following the steps here: Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone

Then, reset your iPhone's network settings under Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This won't remove any of your personal information (contacts, photos, Calendar events, etc) but it will remove saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, as well as any previously used APN or VPN settings and connected Bluetooth devices.

After the reset, pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone again and test the connectivity.

Finally, if the Apple Watch and iPhone still have trouble staying connected, back up your iPhone, then restore it to factory settings. Instructions to back up can be found here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

And instructions to restore can be found here: Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to factory settings

After the restore is complete, set up your iPhone as a new device (meaning without using your backup, at least temporarily). You can sign into iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and the iTunes and App Store. Then pair your Apple Watch, and test its connectivity. If everything works as expected, go ahead and restore your backup following the steps are: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

    Have a lovely day!

Thank you for your help. It does seem like it is staying connected better today than it previously was. I did just restart the phone. I will see how it goes. If I need to I will continue through the steps you listed. Thanks again!

    Regards,
