Q: Why is FCPX rendering and sharing incredibly slow all of a sudden

I have used my FCPX multiple times for multiple movies, however I went to do one today and the rendering was incredibly slow, like a 1.5 min clip took 30 minutes to render, where it use to take but a couple of seconds. I suffered through that and attempted to export it and forget it, I waited 15 minutes and it moved 3%. I know that changing settings changes how fast it exports, and I always do that, the problem at hand is why is FCPX so incredibly slow out of no where?

I have a OS X Yosemite 10.10.5, 2.7GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB 1867 MHz DDR3. I have plenty of memory on my MacBook Pro, the same amount as every other video I have made. Once I am done one, I export it to a external hard drive along with all of its individual clips so nothing is on my computer. Can someone give me some advice, walk me through what I'm doing wrong or missing PLEASE?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

What percentage of free space do you have on the boot drive?

If it is > 15%, no problem there. If < 15%, that may be the reason.

If free space isn't an issue, post back and provide us more info of project settings and the media properties.

There is 23.1% memory not being used. All of the clips are .m4v clips with setting being 1080p at 60fps. The movie is now 10min long and the project settings are 4k format, 3840x2160 res, 60p rate, Stereo, 48 kHz, Apple ProRes 422.

Assume that by "23.1% memory", you are referring to free storage space on your boot drive.

You're intentionally scaling up the video from 1080 to 4K and rendering the H.264 footage in Pro Res? That's kind of unusual. Were you also working like this when your projects rendered in seconds?

I am referring to free storage space on my boot drive.

I am intentionally scaling up the video from 1080 to 4k, I have for the past couple videos with no problems like this, however I am going back to the exact settings from here on out. Until this point, that did not effect it, but do you think it may have something to do with it? Also, I was rendering it in H.264 footage in Pro Res because I read on multiple pages that it makes smaller files which are easier to copy out and upload to places like YouTube, what's your opinion on that?

I also read that clearing the FCPX preferences, erasing it, then re-downloading it can help... but I am a little nervous about that; opinion?

H.264 is much more compressed than Pro Res and will have much smaller files. Pro Res is an editing codec. H.264 is a delivery codec. Most people I know upload H.264 to You Tube.
