Q: Cannot uninstall apps after update to iOS 10

I need serious help with my iPad Air 2 which I just recently updated to iOS 10. Apps cannot be uninstalled. I've already checked the restrictions area. I've also tried stopping all ongoing updates and even switching to airplane mode. Whenever i try to hold an app for a quick momment, the icons jiggle alright, and the x buttons appear on all apps that can be uninstalled, including the apple stock apps that can now be uninstalled. But the problem is that, when I press the x button, nothing happens. The icons continue to jiggle with the x buttons still present. It doesn't freeze. My iPad doesn't freeze when I do that. Again, tapping on the x doesn't do anything.

I don't want to reset my iPad in anyway because of the settings and apps that surely I can't recall when I do. I've also searched over the Internet but I don't see a similar case. Please help. Thanks.

Try a forced restart. To force restart your device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

After the device starts up, try again. This does not affect any data

Hi. First step, have you restarted since the update. Hold Sleep and Home buttons until you see the Apple. If that still doesn't help, try going to Settings > General > Storange and iCloud Usage > STORAGE Manage Storage. This will list the apps and the storage they use. Tap on the app to see its details and a delete button should appear. If it does not, you may have restrictions or a profile that prevents deletion.

Thank you, I still cannot delete a wiggling app with the little X, but this method worked for me after the force restart didn't change anything.

Doing the forced restart worked easily - but at first attempt only. What I mean is that, right after restarting, when I tapped and held one icon, it will wiggle with the x buttons, and pressing the x will work. This is good. But when I exit the wiggling phase and try to tap and hold an app again, the x button won't work again.

Again it worked only at the first instance when I do a restart (even if it's not a forced restart). But the next attempts will go back to the same problem.

again, no glory after forced restart. Mine is an iPad Air 2, model MGHX2LL/A, updated to iOS 10 on 9/16/16.

My next suggestion would be to reset all settings, but I know you are very hesitant to try that because you have to enter all device settings again. I know it can be a good bit of work to get all your settings back to where they were but sometimes it helps, though no guarantees.

I  am sorry, have you done that yourself with positive result? If not, I am sure, how manage you to advise anyone to do that crap?

iOS 10 has billions of bugs, as if it never have passed even alpha test. Its auto lock is not working, its virtual keyboard loses focus where to enter text, its power consumption became pathetic even in sleep mode (several times worse than 9.3.X in same condition), its autocorrection deletes last character in a word if you close the ")" brace -- just a couple of seconds before "condition" turned to "conditio)"... And now that! -- Impossible to delete apps.

Was I talking to you? I don't think so. And yes, I have reset settings a few times. I have restored devices a few times.

I Have absolutely none of the "bugs" that you are describing. My iPad Air 2 and iPhone 5s are running just fine on iOS 10. Another minor update was released yesterday. Maybe you should download and install that update and you might have better success.

Have you tried any troubleshooting? reset all settings, erase all content and settings, back up and restore the iOS software using iTunes?

If you have something better to offer here, please do so.

Just in case you might decide all those bugs are thought out:

    1. http://www.iphonehacks.com/2016/09/fix-most-common-ios-10-problems.html

    2. http://www.imore.com/troubleshooting-ios-10-ultimate-guide

    3. http://appletoolbox.com/2016/09/top-10-problems-with-ios-10-how-to/

and I am just too lazy to copy-paste all of them.

BTW, either 10.0.2 has cured the issue or installing one more app recovered the function, but now I can remove applications.
