Q: Upgraded to 10.0.01 and now things are lost.

i just upgraded my iPad to software 10.0.01 . I didn't realize my settings would be lost, and subsequently, I seem to have lost emails, passwords, and probably other things. how can I get my settings back? How can I get my docs and emails back? I wish I didn't upgrade. That was dumb.

iPad Air, iOS 10

That is why you are supposed to backup the data on your iDevices by connecting to  a computer running the latest version of iTunes or backup all of your iDevices data to Apple's iCloud, first, before doing any major system upgrade/update.

If you didn't do any of this, the data is gone.

    Sorry.

Well, that is unfortunate. Don't you think it should have several warnings and suggestions before it upgrades? This is a major flaw in development. No doubt government issued. I find that with apple, there are no choices, or explanations given when it comes to agreeing to various apps and software. They give you one Choice. Yes or No. And for the leagues of people out there who are not as computer savvy, ... well, guess we get screwed.

i'M actually thinking about giving up mac for good because of this. Sneaky and shady and unprofessional. Just throwing my opinion out there. That's all. Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

Your opinions on this are noted, but, largely, incorrect and misleading.

Just for future reference, Apple's product support areas supplies lots of info that you can find to help you with any of your Apple products.

It is up to the user to use due dilligence and do some research and take some responsibility about learning how to use and maintain/upgrade/update and generally take care of the Apple products you purchase and use.

Here is the Apple support document the takes you step by step through the Apple iDevice upgrade/update process found here.

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

So, Apple DOES supply all of the info and support.

It is up to each user of an Apple product to avail themselves to actually look for the needed information first.

Also, if you ever downloaded any of Apple's iDevice users' guides, they always make references to Apple's user support section and technical support communities and help specialists.

I know all about Apple's support section, but All I did  to find the info I needed quick was do a quick Internet search using the search terms iPad upgrade or iOS upgrade or update to find this Apple support document link.

Took me all of, perhaps, 20 seconds, or so, to find the appropriate document to help me avert any problems, diffuculties or data loss from happening on my Apple iDevice.

You, as the user, needs to take some responsibilty to find the proper info you need before just blindly doing something to your mobile devices that could potentially be detrimental.

I'd, also, like to add that computing devices are not infallable.

Bad things can happen to any type of computing device at any time.

You need to know more than just how to use any computer or mobile computing device on a basic level.

iPads and iPhones are better computing devices to use for the large computer unsaavy population, but even these devices need the user to delve a little deeper to have a better overall understanding of these mobile devices that even technology challenged people decide to use for everyday tasks.

There HAS to be some critical responsibilites of the end user to know enough sbout these devices to protect important personal data and memories stored on these devices.

The data on these mobile devices won't stay protected and uncorrupted for very long, extended periods of time without something bad happening to this data.

Technologically challenged people do not seem to have this common sense about computers.

They think that once data is saved to a computing device that it will be there forever and ever!

This is NOT true and is a dangerous mindset and fallacy.

Computers and portable computing devices are designed and made by us.

We are all flawed and anything we come up with, design and build are flawed, as well.

Our computers are just as flawed and we need to protected the digital data that is stored to these flawed devices by making multiple backup copies of this data to other flawed media or devices to maintain and protect important data to as many redudant storage sources as we can possibly afford.
