Q: Newest MacBook + Asus PA329Q: Horrible Fonts

Hi Community!

I recently bought the newest version of MacBook, which I love.

I also bought an Asus PA329Q, which is great for Photoshop, Final Cut Pro work (colour correction).

I connected the MacBook via HDMI with the Monitor, however the results are rather disappointing: the resolution at its highest is fantastic (3840 x 2160px) however the fonts (of the operating system for example) look horrible, as if the anti-aliasing is off!

I have no idea how to fix this? Is the connection through HDMI that causes it?

Any thoughts?

Many thanks!

I don't have this particular monitor, but I've encountered what may be a similar problem with the Acer K272HUL that I use.  If you generate a system report (Apple menu->About This Mac, then click the "System Report..." button) and look under "Graphics/Displays", under the description of the monitor there's a line that says "Television".  If that says "Yes", then macOS sends a YCbCr color space signal rather than an RGB signal, which results in jagged/janky fonts because the font smoothing relies on higher-fidelity color information.  If this turns out to be the case for you, the fix is to run an EDID patch that forces the display to use RGB mode.  Instructions may be found at iphonetopics.com.
