Q: Top sites keep disappearing once safari history is cleared

I'm trying to set Hotmail and my work see service login as my top sites but whenever i clear safari history they disappear. It's only these two sites that are doing it the others seem to work fine.

Any advice? cheers.

    Hi Aur0xx,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you are trying to add Hotmail and your work site to your Safari Top Sites, but when you clear the Safari history, these sites disappear.

The first article below explains that Top Sites that aren’t marked as permanent will be removed if you clear the Safari browsing history.

Safari for Mac: Clear your Safari browsing history

This next article explains how to keep a website in Top Sites.

View your Top Sites - Safari Help

    • Keep a website in Top Sites: Hold your pointer over the website’s thumbnail, then click the pin icon that appears. To unpin the website so other websites can replace it, click the pin icon again.

Once you have Hotmail and your work site set to permanently appear in Top Sites, resetting the Safari history shouldn't remove these sites.

    Cheers!

Hey thanks for your reply but I'm still bit stumped. How do i make other websites replace it once i've unpinned it?

    Hello again Aur0xx,

Thanks for the follow-up question. It sounds like you would like to replace a Top Site once unpinned.

You can delete a Top Site by using these instructions:

Remove a Top Site: Hold your pointer over the Top Site, then click the Remove icon that appears.

You can also add a new website to your Top Sites by using this information:

Add a website to your Top Sites: Move the pointer over the Smart Search field, click and hold the One-Step Add button that appears at the left end of the field, then choose Top Sites from the menu.

View your Top Sites - Safari Help

    Have a great day!
