Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It looks like the FaceTime HD camera on your MacBook Air isn't working. We can help you solve this problem.
First try opening another app that uses the camera, such as Photo Booth. Does the camera work in that application?
If not, start up in safe mode next and see if the same thing happens.Starting up in safe mode
Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.
- Start or restart your Mac.
- Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
- Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.
After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.
To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.
If the issue persists in safe mode, then please reset the SMC:
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac- Shut down the Mac.
- Plug in the MagSafe or USB-C power adapter to a power source and to your Mac.
- Using the built-in keyboard, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the keyboard, then press the power button at the same time.
- Release all keys, then press the power button again to turn on your Mac
Sincerely.
