Q: Your device or computer could not be verified

Since updating to Sierra, when I go to the Mac App Store to update Keynote etc it asks me for my password and then gives the error 'An Unexpected error occurred while signing in.  Your device or computer could not be verified.  Contact support for assistance.' - any ideas what the problem is?

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

    Try signing out of your Mac App Store account. Quit the Mac App Store. Restart you Mac. Open the Mac App Store and sign back into your account. Try the update again.
