Q: iTunes backup password for iPhone
My previous phone was an iPhone 6 Plus. My iPhone 7 Plus just arrived. Backed up my iPhone 6 Plus to my iMac (Have done this prior to today as well) so it was just what I usually do. Deleted all settings on my iPhone 6 Plus (unfortunate mistake) then proceeded to connect my iPhone 7 Plus to my iMac so I could put the backup on it. I was then asked for the password to restore my new iPhone with the backup from my iPhone 6 Plus.
Like many others I don't recall setting this password. Very silly, I know.
I've tried numerous types of passwords including typical passwords like "password", "1234", "0000", my iMac log in, my e-mail address, my apple ID, my iPhone passcode and many other passwords that I have used in the past to no avail. I appreciate I can continue to guess the password which I will continue to do but I am trying to search for alternatives as well. I don't recall having problems last time I changed phones which was when I went from an iPhone 5 to iPhone 6 Plus back in 2014. Had no issues backing up from iPhone 5 and restoring on my iPhone 6 Plus so I believe I must of set the encryption/password around that time in 2014 or shortly after.
My backup currently sits on my iMac and of course I can't access it. I have browsed other forums and came across "iPhone backup password recovery" software that would basically go through every possible password it could be and give me it in the end but I would need to purchase this type of software. As well as this the password would have had to be relatively simple (Which I believe it probably would have been as I don't really make super complex passwords) for the software to get the password else it could take years apparently.
Is there any available software compatible with Mac that I could use to recover the password?
If there isn't any software available on Mac, is there a way I can transfer the backup from Mac to Windows and get the recovery software on Windows instead? I have my iMac's hard drive partitioned so have MacOS on one part and Windows on the other part so it could make the process of transferring easier, maybe?
Even if trial software could give me the first character of the password it would get me on the right track for sure.
What does anyone suggest? Is there any reliable software that would do the job on MacOS or Windows? Can I copy the back up that was carried out on my Mac over to Windows and deal with it there instead?
I really wanted to get this sorted because my backup literally has everything on it. About 93GB to be exact which consists of about 19,000 photos/videos and everything else from 2010 to now.
If you are going to respond please do read everything I've said. I really want to get this resolved. Thanks for any contribution. Will really appreciate it.
