Q: Transferring ALL my windows 7 (free update to 10) to my iMac

Good Evening (Sydney, Australian time is &.08 PM).

My Problem is (apart from being a LONG TIME BEGINNER), is I got tired of my Windows 7, crashing as regards auto. updates which Microsoft did not seem to care about. (see their community forums). So I purchased an iMac 21.5" and also purchased Parallels so that I could use both with the new iMac.

I am trying to get all my windows ( or the important ones) transferred to the Apple side of the computer, with a special area to keep what I need from Windows.

PLEASE, is there such a way ????? or am I wasting time, and should delete all my windows work (over 10-14 Years worth. (Sure, I know that I will get rid of a lot of rubbish etc.).

Possible, is there an App or whatever, that allows me to get some of my Window files etc. onto my Apple side ????

Thank You for reading.

Harry Deitch  (Sydney, Australia)

P,S. I have a 3 year Apple protection plan, but I can not find the Email to contact them with, as it is easier for me to use email rather than phone.

I wish to get rid of Parallels 10, as all they want is to get me to continuously upgrade (and charge about $60-$70 (Aus) .

You do not email AppleCare, you pick up the phone and call them and speak to a real human being. However they will not Support Parallels. I suspect that you may want to contact the developers of Parallels to migrate your Windows info.

If you simply want access to your Windows data in Mac OS then you should carefully read How to transfer data from a PC to a Mac - Apple Support

Welcome to the Mac world. I know what you mean about crashes and snafus on a PC. I am required to use a PC in my work and am constantly baby sitting it. My i-Mac is so stable, it's a different world. Depending on the software that created the documents you may find that many of them will open with Pages, Numbers or other software already on your Mac. Another alternative to Parallels is to purchase the Mac version of what created the documents (i.e. - Word for Mac, etc).

You want to check the Parallels site for something like a PC importer

app (or whatever its called).  It would create a file/container that was

basically a complete image of your machine and you would import

    that into Parallels.

Of course you will need a valid license for the Windows OS.

Not exactly sure what it was as I gave up Parallels a few years ago and

went to VMWare Fusion when Parallels went to a subscription model

for a VM app that was actually useful for me.

Also, if you have in fact done the free upgrade to Windows10, Microsoft has

made next to impossible to make a move like that without an act of God, your first born,

    your soul,........

Thank You for all your trouble.

I am going to find out more about "VMWare Fusion" to see if

I can get better results than Parallels.

My problem at the moment is that a new upgrade 12 is now being

offered at about $64.00 (AUD) to help with the Parallels setup.

BUT, WHEN YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT THE WEBSITE SMALL WRITING,

if you have already a sub (for me is 10), then you can get it free.

(Which I did). Everything went smoothly and download plus installtion,

but it now asks for my APPLICATION key. (which I can not find anywhere, except

maybe in the Windows setup which I now can not get into> no key).

I have TRIED to contact support for assistance, but, yes you guessed it, no answer.

I want to delete the upgrade 12, but do not know how. I tried withFinder etc.

I am considering to re=download 10, maybe it might work.

Any way, sorry for bleating so much, but what a marvellous world we now live in.

    Regards  Harry.
