Q: can i turn backups option back on after deleting?

I deleted and turned off backups.  I don't want the actual backups back, I just want to turn back on the option to back up my phone again on a regular basis again.  Is that possible?

iPhone 5, iOS 10

Do you mean with iCloud? If so, yes you can turn it on again. I use iCloud and iTunes backups so I turn it off and on all the time. I turn it on when I want to use it and turn it off when I want to backup with iTunes.

It's actually not necessary to disable iCloud backups to use iTunes.  I backup in both all the time.  My iCloud backup setting is always on, and I just backup to iTunes via wifi or cable manually on a regular basis.  Even automatic wifi iTunes backups will work without interrupting iCloud settings.  In my experience, the two backup mechanisms are independent of each other and can be used simultaneously without issue.

That's interesting. Every time that I tried to backup to iTunes with iCloud still selected, it wouldn't work for me. I had to disable iCloud backups. I backup and sync with iTunes OTA and I do it manually. I do not auto sync. I also initiate my Cloud backups. No auto backups for me there either.

I backed up with iTunes this morning and I am backing up with iCloud even as I am typing this response. I never go more than two or three days at the most without backing up with iTunes. iCloud backups are less often, maybe once every 10 days or so.

I Will try again to backup with iTunes over the weekend with iCloud still selected and see how it goes.

I didn't doubt that you were correct, but I can now state that I have seen it with my own eyes.

I did create a backup with iTunes this morning while the option to backup with iCloud was still selected. My last iCloud backup was at 4:37 yesterday morning and my manual iTunes backup took place at about 5:30 this morning. I think that one of things that threw me off is that I always turned off the iCloud backup in the summary pane of iTunes before I backed up, so I assumed that it had to be turned off in order to perform an iTunes backup.
