Q: How do I change my email password in iOS 10?

I updated my Yahoo email password and want to make sure it's updated in my phone. Since I upgraded to iOS 10, I don't see where a password is entered. I went into Settings/Mail and selected the account but there's no password field to be found. Any help?

    You're missing a step before getting to "Recent Activity". Sign in to Yahoo webmail. Click (or mouse over) your username, Account Info. Then click Recent Activity on the left pane. You'll see all active sign in and you can sign them out.

    That is a security problem. Yahoo mail app for Android automatically signed me out of my mailbox when I changed my password. I can't access the mailbox content until I type in the new password. That's how it should work.

    Hi ShagCA, yes a definite security risk. I cant find recent activity when looking at Yahoo webmail on iPhone.

    I do, iPad Pro and iPhone, but I only have one entry in the "Apps connected to your account" section. 

     

    The iPad however issued his message when I opened the mail App:

     

    Cannot Get Mail

    The user name or password for "Yahoo" is incorrect.

     

    Which now confuses me more.   Why did it update on my iPhone but not my iPad?  It also offers me the opportunity to change the password.  Which is even more confusing. But its not working. It sent me an email that said Yahoo had prevented the login. For some reason the Mail app on iPad is less secure than on iPhone. Don't quite understand that,

     

    I deleted the account, and recreated it, and it worked fine.  Stranger and stranger.

     

    I then got a new entry in Recent Activity, with an iPad looking icon, and an option to sign out the device.

    Based in what Yahoo's settings. I would assume removing the iOS devices from the "Apps connected to your Account" section in the Yahoo website, and signing them out from the Recent Activity list there too would take care of that.

     

    how did my iPhone magically update my password with a 3rd party service???

    Somehow having the device or App connected to the account allows said device and App to receive the updated security certificate from Yahoo directly.

    That again doesn´t say the device just the OS. But the most important info is Apps connected to your account.

     

    Can anyone with more than one iOS or more than one Mac device linked to their yahoo mail confirm whether this lists multiple devices (iOS or Mac) or just one.

    That is strange. If others who have multiple iOS devices and all their devices can still access email (unlike you with your iPad), yet on Yahoo iOS is only listed once I think the advice would be to delete the devices on Yahoo and then re log on. Do you agree?

    Yes, I would agree with that.

     

    Remove the iOS entry and re - log in on the iOS devices.

    Mail app on the iPad is more secure if it stops you from accessing the mailbox content after changing the password. I'm guessing it takes a while for the iPhone to realize that the (old) password is no longer good.

    I know that does but iOS seems to help criminals by automatically changing the Mail password. If all the observations in this thread is correct (that is, iOS automatically changes the password for users), I would call that a serious security issue.

    My iPad is only iOS 10 device and it exhibited the automatic password update behavior.

    One iPod Touch is iOS 6 and it does not update BUT displays password fields to update easily.

    Have another iPT with iOS 7 and will get to that one later.

    Very small sample size (2) but it seems that only 1 iOS device automatically connects. Lets see if we get any other feedback.

    Just a thought...... My wife uses completely different account settings for icloud & mail on her iphone & ipad. But has a login for our work yahoo account. Even though I've changed the password on yahoo site she still has full access with no change of password required. Therefore I assume that should my details be held on any apple device a password is either not required or auto updated?

    If someone has your password, and was maybe logged into a yahoo app on an iPhone, wouldn't their app update automatically too? How would yahoo be able to differentiate between apple devices?

     

    fir example: I have my work email on my wife's iPad as well as my own iPhone. If she was to (rhetorically) leave me , how could I ensure that she would not automatically receive every subsequent password change?

     

    Facebook etc give you the option to log out all other devices, but this isn't an option for email.

     

    I have to be missing something.

    The only way to be totally safe is to log in via your browser, navigate to Apps connected to your device and delete each one. You can then enter a password to get into your mail via  your Apple device in settings. Just remember to do this each time you change passwords. I think Yahoo should advise this, but as with many communication companies it's hard to find a way to contact them to suggest this!

    I could not find the "password" link when I did what you mention.  It was there in iOS9 but is not there for me in iOS10.  How do you then change your password?  Does that option only appear after you disconnect or delete your devices?

    You won't be able to input the password until you have deleted your iOS device from Yahoo using your browser.
